Recently one of our local S.O. deputies, Art Molina, was diagnosed with stomach cancer. Art is 27 years old and has a wife and two very small girls. From what I understand the doctors have given Art a VERY short time left on this Earth. A local internet company has donated a web site that has some details. It deals mostly with local charity events but has an e-mail address. I know it would cheer up Art to know he has an extended family beyond those in the Brazos Valley. Please take a moment to visit the site.

Ken...

I wrote Art a letter, but it came back to me and it said that the user was unknown. The email link must be incorrect.

How does anyone really know what to say in a case like this, but I feel that writing him is the right thing for me to do. I'd very much like to get this letter to this man.

Can you help me, Ken?

I sent him a virtual card. Hope it doesn't come back returned.

Supposedly there was a small problem with the e-mail link, but it's supposed to be worked out now. I know he appreciates it.

If you still have problems, send it to me and I'll make sure he gets them. You can send them to vatoslam@yahoo.com

Thanks Ken. I sent it again about an hour ago and so far it hasn't come back to me. If it comes back again... I'll send it to you... ok?

Thanks for your caring, too... Ken. This man needs support and I think it's good of you to look out for him and his family. I applaud you.

Ken,

I just sent off an email to your fellow officer, Art.There are no words that can express the sorrow I feel in learning about the suffering of another person, my heart speaks silent volumes. Be assured that Art will be in my prayers and the prayers of all my friends.

Ken, my heart and prayers are also with Art and his family. I know you and his other friends are going to have a tough time over the next short while as I have been there. Be there for him and the family. You will need to be strong for them. Spend as much time as you can with them not letting them think they have been forgotten.

One of my officers was being treated for about 1 1/2 years for "acid reflux". His condition worsened over time but he continued to follow the regime his doctor prescribed.

In August of 1998, he had to drop out of an ASP Instructor's class that we were in. He was in a lot of pain.

On December 5th, he collapsed in the ER after a struggle with a psych patient. He was admitted and after a CT it was determined his body had been "taken over" by cancer.

He died on March 30, 1999 at the age of 37. His death came just 4 weeks after his only child was born. He deteriorated so fast it was unbelievable. At the time of death, people that had not seen him in the previous 6 months would have never recognized him.

Good luck and best wishes to Art, his family, and to you and all his friends. Make the best of the time left and cherish what has already passed.

My heart goes out to Art.....
I was recently diagnosed with a stomach bacteria that has been linked with stomach cancer. I have to tell you, that was one of the most sobering experiences of my entire life. I have since tested clean for cancer, but it brought me to a whole new awareness for Art, and others who suffer from this disease. I will be keeping him in my prayers....

Jen...

You and me, both...sis. You know I've had a recent breast cancer scare. What a major worry it's been for the past 5 weeks since it does run in my family. I'm like you, though... I'm ok. That's great for both of us!

Now.... we have to keep up those prayers for Art and his family! Eventually we will get the report that he has recovered completely and is going back on duty!

Many thanks for the replies. BCSO had a benefit BBQ and raffle Saturday and when I left the money count was somewhere in the neighborhood of $20K. Unbelievable! I know it will come in handy when those staggering hospital bills come in.

7, it's funny you mentioned in your response about "acid reflux". That is exactly what the doctors here thought was wrong with Art at first. Just goes to show how important a 2nd opinion is.

I know as I get older I'll be more aware too. My father passed away at 49 from cancer and so did his father. Fortunately as medical care gets better and we get smarter about our health we all have better odds.

It is outstanding that the community got out there to support this deputy. It shows that he is a great person that touches a lot of people's hearts. My family will be praying for him.

Badgeman, you live in the area too? What agency are you with?
