I saw the headline ... I was praying for all ....
Date: 09Jun00
Where: Hwy 401 between London & Windsor
How: Suspect Vehicle stop - robbery,

OPP Sergeant Margaret Eve killed in the line of duty.

ODMP Canada remembers...

Sergeant Margaret Eve
Ontario Provincial Police, ON
Cause of Death: Struck by vehicle
End of Watch: June 9, 2000
Age: 38

On June 07, 2000 at approx. 1520 hrs Sergeant EVE, Provincial Constable Patti PASK both of the Chatham-Kent Detachment along with Provincial Constable Brad SAKALO of the Essex Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police recieved information relating to a suspect vehicle involved in an armed robbery in the City of Windsor, ONTARIO. The suspect vehicle was observed eastbound on Hwy #401 from Windsor. The three officers performed a high risk takedown on the subject vehicle with three fully marked cruisers at the Hwy #401 and Hwy #40 intersection. Upon stopping the vehicle it was at some point ascertained that the occupants of this vehicle were not involved in the robbery. All three officers were outside their cruisers interviewing the occupants when a tractor trailer slammed into all three cruisers and the subject vehicle. Provincial Constables PASK and SAKALO were seriously injured and transported to Hospital. Sgt. EVE was critically injured and later airlifted to a Hospital in London, ONTARIO where on the 09th of June 2000 she succumbed to her injuries. The two civilians involved were also transported to Hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the tractor-trailer was arrested and has been charged with 1 count of Criminal Negligence causing death and 1 count of Dangerous Driving causing death, 4 counts of Criminal Negligence causing bodily harm, 4 counts of dangerous driving causing bodily harm, and one count of careless driving. Sergeant Eve was with the force for 14 years. She survived by her husband and 2 children.

May Sgt. Eve rest in peace.

Yes, may she rest in peace.

"Carnage Alley"?? What a horrible name for a road. It sounds as if lots of people have lost their lives there. When are they going to do anything so that further deaths can be prevented?

Raychel,
It's funny you should ask, because the same day the three officers were struck, they started an inquest to prior deaths along the same strip!

Ironic huh?

Not only that, she was in the headlines (front page) when Officer McFadden had his life taken too!

I'm not sure what exactly it is about that stretch of highway, but it seems to be developing into a "black hole".

It seems with our transportation commission, that before anything can be done, a lot of people have to die senseless deaths.

May God be with her and her family.

She passed on from her injuries, 09Jun00 1200 hrs.

Chris...

I'm sorry to hear of Sgt. Eve's death. It really doesn't matter what part of the world you live on when an Officer goes down.

May God be with her family.
