Hey all,

Been taking in a lot of good information here for the last couple weeks while awaiting my activation.

I'm applying to Jefferson County Sheriff's office (where Columbine resides) as both a Detention Specialist and Patrol Deputy. Also applying to Lakewood P.D., Aurora P.D., Boulder P.D. and Colorado State Police.

My preference (dream position) would be Jefferson Cty Sheriff. But I understand it's wise to apply to multiple agencies.

Out here there typically are not age restrictions as far as maximum age. I'm a young 45 (people are generally surprised when I tell them my age.)

Anyway any advice on older recruits? Advantages? Disadvantages? Does life experience carry any weight?

Thanks....and glad to be here
R.M.

Welcome to officer.com Rob. Life itself is a learning experience, when one stops learning they stop living, so life experiences are important. You're wise to apply at multiple agencies, the more irons you have in the fire at a time the better. Most agencies around here will ask applicants during an interview if they've applied anywhere else. If someone's serious about getting into LE as a career, they'll apply at as many agencies as they can until they're hired by one of them.

I believe that LE is a calling, not unlike the military (which are closely related historically). If you have been given a strong desire to serve others through LE, then you've been called to do so. Have faith and trust that the Lord will open the right doors and He'll do it in His time and in His way.

Best regards -
