http://www.officer.com/ubb/frown.gif This really hits home, as does ANY fallen LEO's story.
My husband being a state trooper as well, I was reading this and all I could think of are his 4 hour construction details he has been working the last month, and at least another month to come.
Rest in Peace Trooper Ross and peace be with your family and all of your loved ones during this very difficult, unimaginable time of grief.

It's now being reported that the same truckdriver that hit Trooper Ross and caused his death, did the same thing in Utah to two other troopers in 1997.
In that case, the troopers were directing traffic through a construction zone when this jerk disregards warning devices, signs, cones, barrels, and all else, drives around other traffic and strikes the troopers vehicles. Both were injured but recovered.
Now he's done it again, disregarded traffic devices, blew through a construction zone, and struck a trooper. Sounds like this guy has issues with troopers and the possibility of murder charges should be seriously considered.

Another thing that concerns me are the areas (Hubby experienced this last year) that deal with a lot of ice on the interstate. Last winter, there was a storm but had only rained. It was a very cold rain though. Some of the interstate, in this certain spot had been worn down by tractor trailers. The water puddled and then turned to ice. Cars started skidding off the road. Crashes were happening right in front of hubby's eyes. He gets out of his car and notices that (mind you..there are police cars, emergency vehicles everwhere...lights flashing, et) cars were still thinking that they could go 75mph! That really scares me. I don't know how on earth these people in passing cars thought they they were immuned to getting in an accident or KILLING a trooper or an EMT or firefighter.
People need a reality check when driving through construction zones and accident scenes.

Special Detail,
Sometimes ask for, sometimes told to do.
A family can always used the extra money that will come with the extra duty.
As always, there are vehicles to guide, families to get through safely, and highway workers to protect as they make the roadways of our country larger, fot more traffic, or repair for a hazzard free drive.
A extra amount of time on the 'job' that takes from a family to give to one's family. A little insurance for a rainy day or an unexpected expense.
And so another brick in the Thin Blue Line is removed from the foundation, of the wall, that protects our citizens from the criminal elements on the prowl outside.
But the check will come home alone today. For the maker of it has gone to meet his maker.
"A meeeting that should have been on the far side a many more extra details," the Trooper explains. "I have children left, unprepared for the adulthood that they face..."
"The ballgames I'll miss, the questions that only a Dad can answer."
"They won't understand how someone can take me away for just wanting to have a few extra dollars for them."
"Can I just be worth a few extra dollars to my kids, my sister, my parents?"
"Do you think that they will find it to be sufficient?"
How much will be enough to pay for wearing the badge, the shield we all wear. How much?
Rest in Peace Brother.
The details you will perform, from this day on, will be on streets of purest gold.
Your transfer has been approved.
Rest in Peace...
