Good Day All,
I will be moving shortly to the Pittsfield area of Western MA. Any recommendations/advice on choosing an area for a family?
I'm ex-military and will be applying for a CCW also. Any pitfalls or advice?
Thanks.

What's a CCW?..........Have you checked the area out yet? I am not sure how far it is but you can check out Wilbraham. I think that's how you spell it. That is closer to Springfield and it is a good place to raise a family.

How can an LEO not know what a CCW is?

I would look into the Westfield or Amherst areas. Depending on where you plan on working, Western Mass is very under populated and underdeveloped compared to Eastern Mass, which gives it the appeal. Referring to your CCW comment, in Mass, if we're talking about the same thing, we refer to it as a LTC or Class A, same thing, different lingo. I have a few LEO buddies in Western Mass, small town feeling at the Dept's they work at....

If you're going to move into the Pittsfield area, look into the towns around Pittsfield....Dalton, Lanesboro, Lenox, Lee. You can find places in Pittsfield, but you want to stay out of certain areas. PM me if you can and I will give you the areas. Springfield and the other areas mentioned in earlier posts are nice, but there an hour away.

By the way, any of the Brookfield areas are nice places to live. Or, any of the smaller communities between Brookfield and Chicopee. Beyond that, If you are adamant to living in a small area most of the Bershire communities are ideal - if you can afford them and can put up with tourists.
