Anyone familiar with the Broward County Sheriffs Office or the area. I see its in the Fort Lauderdale area, but Ive never been that far down south. Just to Orlando and Tampa. I am thinking about moving to the area but am wondering about the cost of living, and prices for apartments. Also if the starting pay at the Sheriffs Office is actually enough to make a decent living. Perhaps there is a better option in that region.

you will need to do some SERIOUS homework as far as the cost of living down here compared to police wages. yes, the pay starts high, but so does the housing. its beautiful, but the home prices are outrageous. my advice is to stay around central to northern florida. its nicer, more room and the housing is more affordable.

The COL is nuts here. Everyone with CBP is trying to get out of S. Fl. because it is so expensive. Nice place to be, lots to do, but very expensive. Plan on renting for a while unless you a little (or a lot) stashed away for a down payment. Some of the guys I work with have bought **** holes just to get their foot in the real estate door (it has now taken a crash though). Stay up there or look into Jacksonville/Orlando outskirts.
