hey everyone, im looking into changing departments, i am 19, and have worked in my county's jail for a about a year now. i live in a small town in oklahoma and im just want to get out and see other parts of the country and work in some thing bigger, my county is pretty small. does any body now some good departments out there that are hiring at my age, either county or state doc. im looking into texas doc or fl. it would be nice if they have some kind of employee housing programe, but i doubt at my age i would get it. thanks

texas hires at 18....I believe any states around here u have to be 21 because it requires you to be armed.

The only thing holding you back is your age. If I were you I would check out the Las Vegas Metro Police Department. They are hiring police and corrections now and they are both paid the same. (very well) No state tax and no social security taken out of your check plus a great retirement plan. If I was a younger guy like yourself, I'd definitely take a hard look at vegas. I don't know if they hire at 19 but 21 is not far away at all.

Join the military for a few years. You get a nice education in life that way, and it shows you are a committed person if you see it all the way through the end of your enlistment. Most LE, corrections included, love exmilitary.I know because I'm an Army Vet.

Check out www.tarrantcounty.com for job postings. We are usually always hiring detention officers for the county. Descent starting pay. Housing is not too expensive around town.

75% of our whole compound is under 21.
Florida hires at 18
