View Full Version : Yet another Background Question

I have already completed the written, pre-background screening, Physical agility and passed the oral board for OCSD. I have 8 years in the military, 4 U.S. Marines with a combat tour in Iraq and 4 years in the Army. Here's where the rough spot comes: in 1999(17 years old) me and my dad( a career deputy sheriff) had a rough year. I was "arrested" and released back to my father after we had an argument and I threw something at a wall(vandalism). No further charges, no court, no convictions. The police said it was nothing major and just try to get along with my dad. A few months later, my brother, (a type I diabetic) was suffering from low blood sugar, and we really didn't have anything in the house that would quickly rais his blood sugar, so I took it upon myself to enter my dad's locked bedroom to get $5.00 from his change jar to get him some food...he arrived at the same time and called the local police and had me arrested for burglary. Talk about letter of the law versus lay of the law lol. I spent the night in juvenile hall, and he came and got me the next morning. I never was charged, saw a courtroom, nor was I convicted. I joined the Marines a few weeks later. Will this be a big problem for my background investigation? I guess i was heading the wrong direction for a little while, but I joined the Marines, been in the military for 8 years, and I am happily married to a successful business owner for 6 years, never ever in trouble after that, and no tickets or any moving violations ever. Perfect military record too..U.S. Marine Non-commisioned officer.

Sounds OK to me....you should be good to go (at least from LA County point of view).

Agreed. And I have that first part in my background too. Not the second part though, but due to the time delay
(8 years), the depth of maturing experiences since (hello, USMC and USA and foreign tour during time of war!), you should be fine.

Thank you for serving your country sir. Much appreciated - from the looks of it, you sound like a quality person.
