Hey, just wondering how many oregon reserves on this? I'm almost hired on, just waiting to meet with the cheif. I was curious as to how many and where, if you want to tell. I'm finishing up with Aumsville PD.

Hope some people reply, stay safe.

Being a reserve is a good way to start out. A lot of the agencies in the Willamette valley look on that pretty heavily.

Try applying at other agencies! Salem is constantly hiring and always looking. Marion Co. will be looking to hire more in the near future and not to forget Oregon State Police. I'm talking about full-time of course.

Let us know if you get it!:D

Best of Luck!

I am thinking of applying for the Keizer PD reserve program. Was planning on applying with some local departments full-time, but I want to finish school first...

Keep in mind that Law Enforcement reserves do demand a level amount of dedication from you to be a reserve officer. Such as attending the reserve academy which is usually held in the evenings twice a week as well as some weekends (usually all day).

You are only allowed to miss a certain amount of classes before you are dropped from the course. The Reserve academy (Marion County) usually goes from about Oct/Nov - May/June (depending on how early or late they start the reserve academy) It's best to attend all the classes because a lot of the information that is put out is important.

Don't forget that after you complete the academy that you are required to dedicate time to that agency as a reserve. The average hours that are usually required for agencies in the Willamette Valley is 20 hours a month. Not all agencies have this requirement some may have more or less.

If you are committed to school full time you should just stick with school and get it done and out of the way. If you want to do reserves then you may want to reduce your class load so that you don't burn yourself out and allow some time in between to study for your reserve class. (The test's are not that bad) but people tend to worry themselves.

I hope this helps give you some insight. Let me know if you have any questions. :)

Best of Luck.

Does anyone know what the Physical Fitness testing requirements are for PPB and Washington Co S.O. reserves?

Not sure about the test for reserves.

Ryan, not sure if you have ever tested with Keizer before, but the reserve testing is the same as thier full time from what I saw.

Spartan, thanks for the advice about applying everywhere. I saw that first hand right out of college in '05 with Salem. ( Not enough experience) I also agree with you on the extra time issue. Along with the academy time the min hrs needed on top of family time will be a hard thing to juggle, but will all pay off in the end when I get that full time position.

Good luck to all who are going to become reserves and to those who are full time.. stay safe and thanks.

I'll update when I hear from the Cheif.

Most agencies in OR are now utilizing the ORPAT. I think Washington county has a different test for their agency. I think theirs consist of 1.5 mile run, push ups & sit ups within 1min and maybe 300m run, not sure though.

The ORPAT is a requirement to graduate the DPSST academy in Salem. You have to pass it within the prescribed time. It's has become a state standard that is why a lot of agencies have gone to it.

PPB is currently using ORPAT now for it's entry testing.

WCSO uses the ORPAT now, and PPB uses their own PAT which is slightly different from the ORPAT, but it is on PPB's website.

I got the call early this evening, and they are bringing me on as a reserve. I get sworn in Tuesday afternoon and I couldn't be happier.

Any tips from full timers, and or reserves?
