Gotta ask: Why is SPD recruiting so hard on the east coast?

Why can't they get local recruits? The pay looks good and seems like a nice city; is there morale issues because of the weather? All that rain must make people go nuts!

Actually I am an east coast transplant myself. There is a lot of competition on the west coast for recruits. We are lucky in the fact that we have lower crime rates then most large east coast cities and offer higher pay. We're hoping that some folks on the east coast follow what I did. Actually it doesn't rain as much as people think. NY gets more annual rainfall then Seattle

I have been looking for a place to live (if I were hired) and cannot find anything that seems practicable... any suggestions? I have recently sold my home in Texas, have a downpayment, but looking even 40-50 miles from core Seattle ... I am not finding anything very affordable. Further, I do not want to rent forever....

The website states that an avg. 3/2 home is $160,000.... where!?! I cannot find anything comparable for less than $300,000.00.

Thanks!

$160,000 is outdated. The median home price in Seattle at the moment is between $420,000 and $460,000. That is for a 3bedroom, 900-1500 square foot house.

I've been thinking about a big move. I live in south GA. I'm 28. I'm a patrol sergeant at a medium sized department, atleast for our area standards. I've been policing for seven years. I've been an accident investigator and a detective. I'm also the fto coordinator and a lot of other crap, lol. What do you think my chances are for Seattle PD... and oh yeah I got about 70 semester hours and I was in the Marine Corp.

So where do officers live? Rent for the rest of our lives??!? Even with SPD's salaries, that does not compensate for the housing costs....

Tx I agree. But hopefully if I did move there between my salary and wife's we should be pretty ok.
