I have been speaking with some parole/probation officers/officials in Mississippi. It seems like a pretty good organization. I can’t believe they are they really certified police officers? I was told they send you to the 10 week Mississippi police academy.

Is this someone with that dept? I ask because I didn't know state probation/parole officers from any state were POST certified. That implies to me that they carry firearms. Do you know if this is true?

I confirmed that. They all must attend the standard Mississippi police academy. 10- weeks with no modified curriculum. Here in Arkansas we carry as well although we go thru our own in-dept. academy. Most state parole agency carry. Some in the better pro-active states every certify with AR-15 and shotgun.

Yes sir you are correct. MDOC Probation/Parole Officers are state certified Law Enforcement.
They all attend the state law enforcement training and also MDOC training and are required to carry a sidearm.
