Recently I received a citation for underage alcohol consumption (I'm 17). This was my second alcohol-related citation in less than a year. The first ticket was dismissed, and I'm not sure what is going to happen with the second charge (I'm hoping that it will also be dismissed).

I'm headed to college this fall; assuming that I stay clean (no more tickets/charges) for the four years that I am in school do I still have a shot at a career in LE?

Short answer: Yes. What would concern me at present, is the fact that you've recieved two alcohol related citations in less than a year. That could be indicative of a larger problem. Remember too, that when you fill out your Background Packet or SPH, for most agencies, they'll typically ask you if you've ever been arrested /cited, and if so, for what? Repeated alchohol related charges will raise major red flags. Good luck in your college endeavors.

Yes you can still work in LE as it is not a major problem if you stay clean and do not continue on the same pattern. Majority of us drank alcohol under the age of 21, but like said before, having two citations in a years time is not a good pattern and it will come in your background investigations. We all know its fun to go out and drink, but if you want to go into LE, then you might want to hold off on drinking until you are 21 and that way nothing will stop you from your future.

yo man, you need to take it easy on the drinking (or at least the citations). you havent gone to college yet. if your doing this crap in high school, you definitely will have problems in college. one thing in your favor, which is just a slight advantage, is that your citations will be part of your juvenile record. having said that, you will have to disclose your past criminal history, which includes the juvenile records, but it will not be part of your public records. this is important for embarassment factors for departments and/or federal government agency. hiring someone with a public criminal record involving alcohol may worry them when it comes to hiring. again, luckily you will be entering college it may be able to put a few years in between the arrests, which will break "the pattern."
