Today I learned that my background officer found out about a department in which I forgot to include or document on the phs that i had tested with years ago? my b/i was twisted over this including referencing my behavior as deceptive. this was not intentional and i explained that. my question is how is this information found? for I would like too make sure i cross reference this next time i am asked this?

Normally not a problem. If I were doing your BI though, I'd wonder why you didn't include the application on your PHS. One way, though by no means the only way, your BI found out about the prior application, would be by running a credit check on you.

PhilipCal, It was 8 years ago that i had tested with this out of the area department. there would have been no reason for me not to put it down. their was no inquiries on any one of my bureaus?

Well Sir, I'm not going to disclose all the means by which a Background Investigator can obtain information. I merely suggested one of them. The fact that the application you mentioned was eight years ago, really doesn't matter. It popped up. Please understand that I'm not personally questioning your integrity. As I noted to you, multiple applications are really pretty normal. I routinely recommend them to first time applicants. If your failure to list the prior application wasn't intentional, it shouldn't be a problem. At this point, all I can suggest is, that if you're not successful in the current application, that you continue to apply. Try to be a little more accurate on your SPH. I hope things work out well for you.

These agencies that get all bend sideways over stuff like this need to step back into reality.
First if you didn't work for said agency what does the simple act of applying to a given agency have to do or even concern them.
It's not like they can offer up anymore to them as to what type of worker you will be, you never worked for them.
That agency would presumably have found the same BI info the other agency had found, give similar experienced BI Investigators.
Are they wanting another agency to do their job for them?
As far as just wanting to know where you have applied they must also remember the sword has two edges.
First they as an agency will collect and screen many applicants for a given position so why can they not expect you to do the same for agencies.
They will hire the best, you can be expected to go with the best agency, can you not?
Seems a bit off...

The BI wants to cross ref. the information you provided the other Dept. as to your background as well as find out any bad information on you that the other BI may have uncovered. They cross reference info to see if you changed something in your PHS that kept you from being hired elsewhere. It's not a conspiracy against you, it's standard operating procedure. I hope my experience doesn't happen to you. I was dropped by a Southern CA agency for leaving out 2 agency's out of 13 that I had applied with. My background was done and they had no ideal. I went in the morning I was to get my conditional offer and told my BI that I had not included them in my PHS on accident. The chief said it was Department policy to drop for inaccurate PHS's and he couldn't bend, for it could open him up to liability issues in the future. I was told to re-apply in 6 months and my background would already be complete. I couldn't believe it.
