Any input on this would be great. I already passed written, physcial, and the polygraph and I am currently having my background investigation done for Virginia Beach Police. I was wondering if anyone knows generally how long this process takes, I know they are trying fill an academy class for August.

On average, a Background investigation can take anywhere from one to three months. Sometimes, they can take longer. There are several factors involved in a Background Investigation, much of which comes down to individual Investigator workload. On some agencies, Backgrounds are done on a full time basis, by Officers assigned specifically to that task. On others, they are handled by Detectives or Line supervisors. In the case of the latter two, Background Investigations frequently go to the "back burner" if something of a more immediate concern developes. It's possible, that a Background Investigation can be "expidited", but even then, thoroughness in the investigation is still required. You should consider too, that references an applicant has provided are not always prompt in responding to the Investigator's inquiries. At the end of the day, the process to be effective, takes a certain amount of time.
