He told me I could ride the buffalo for 5 or take the 3 sec. deal.......I'm leaning highly towards the 3sec dealio!!

Either way, it hurts like hell. Good luck and go to the bathroom beforehand. I was told a Sgt. who I used to work with ignored this advice and, well, you understand...

I highly suggest you take the full five second buffalo dealio ;)

In for a penny, in for pound. Might as well take the full ride. Its only two seconds longer. Of course those two seconds will seem to take about two years to go by....

Take the full ride....and remember it's gonna hurt real real bad.

Take the full ride. It's not THAT bad. I'd rather get TASERd than pepper sprayed any day...it only lasts five seconds, and afterward you feel better.

I'm a certified instructor through Taser international and have taken 3 full rides and everyone of them sucked. I do recommend taking the full ride so if you're ever called into court on use of force you can articulate the effects first hand.

The 5 second ride doesn't hurt that bad. Take it, live a little.

I'd take the three seconds, but it's not all that bad. The time will seem like longer than it really is, but once the taser shuts off it doesn't hurt anymore. In fact, it's not just entirely painful. The reason I wanted it to stop more than anything is because it felt so weird. Yes, it hurt, however, it did not hurt as much as you anticipate it to.

I'm a TASER instructor as well. Women generally take the full ride more than men do. I don't know if it's because women have a higher pain tolerance, or because they want to show they can take it. I only know they do it, and feel great that men wimp out with three.

But that's been my experience. In my office, even most of the secretaries took the ride...not all for the 5, but enough to qualify them to use one against someone exhibiting tacky behavior.

Women generally have less muscle than men, which also makes it easier, as the electricity has less distance to travel. Skinny males also show more resistance to the TASER than bigger males.

:D I bet I'd get banned if I said what I really thought here :D

They also say we handle the OC better...dunno why...

I don't believe that it is because they have a higher pain tolerance - remember, they are choosing to BEFORE the ride.

It is because they want to show they can take it. Remember, this still is a heavily dominated by men type of job. That is just how it is. From my experience, the older male "candidates" are typically the ones who opt out of the ride. I guess, they feel they have less to prove than the rest.

I have heard more complaints of females not jumping into a fight tohelp out then men. Does that mean anything? Not for me, I have not witnessed it myself - the females I work with get their hands dirty.

To the OP. If you HAVE TO take a ride, take the 5 seconds. Both hurt like hell, but at least you won't look like a puss if you go for the 3. What is 2 more seconds of your life worth, anyway?

my dept wont let officers get tased in training... wish they would take that stance on OC.. which is 10 times worse ive done oc twice but i cant imagine a 5 second pain being worse then a 5 hour pain/annoyance

A TASER makes most fights unnecessary. I've know wimps, both male and female who wouldn't jump into a fight. Especially rookies, who don't know exactly what they're supposed to do...jump in the fight or watch the crowd for weapons.

Probably more male wimps than females because the female deputy is so much smaller..they go where they pay is higher.

I knew a female Game Warden who loved to fight. She was about 6'2", thin, and beautiful enough to be a model. But she could throw a punch, in fact punched out a bouncer off duty at a bar. Got in trouble, but not much as the bouncer wasn't interested in pressing charges.

I think that one of the topics covered in the Taser certification class should be the proper spelling of TASER!! :D

Which is an acronym for "Thomas A. Swift's Electric Rifle." Although it's not a rifle, and I don't think Tom's middle initial was "A".

I just don't like giving the term total capitalization although I know it's proper to do so.

I didn't try to prove anything when I got certified. I had the option of duration so I only took a two second "ride," as they say. Knowing what it feels like now, I'd do the total five if that were necessary to maintain certification, but it's not.

None of us in the class knew what it would feel like so I also assumed that those choosing the five second burst were doing so to show off, and I think they still were. I don't think it really hurt that bad. My thoughts during the process of it were actually, "wow, this is so weird feeling." In fact, it was so much so that I wanted it to stop. Yes, there was an element of pain, and I don't like pain and do all I can to avoid it believe me, but it wasn't unbearable by any means. Maybe the five seconds causes pain? I don't know.

Be a man and take the full ride. Oh, and we can't say enough how bad it sucks. It sucks worse than anything has ever sucked before. Oh, I highly advise that you use the bathroom BEFORE you take said ride. That, or bring extra clothes just in case.

I went my my first ride today on the X26 to get certified to carry. Granted, it was optional, but all 13 of 13 went for the full 5-sec. ride.

Let me tell you. I thought that I would be able to handle it pretty well. Yeah...I screamed like a little girl. I was so loud the Chief came out of his office to see who was getting murdered in his training room.

Just a little FYI, if the instructor tries to place a probe on each gluteus maximus muscle, you tell him to GFO. I couldn't sit down for a little while. :o

This is some very good advice. I have probably shocked a good 50 people with my taser and at least 40 have either urinated or defecated themselves. Sometimes they do both. 50 is on the low end but it really does seem like everybody loses control of bodily functions. Especially the drunks.

Its funny, I went through one of the first TASER Instructor classes in Michigan in 2000 or 2001, cant remember the exact date, a lot of stuff has happened since then. I do remember cops being worried about people urinating and crapping their pant. Most of us dont like foul dirty pants cscumbags in our cars. The Master instructor told us that the TASER didnt cause the evacutation for the bladder or bowls.

Has somethig changed? Its still the same device right? Is there more wattage or what thats causing all this pants crapping? I was TASERed a total of 9 times in the first year, once with two TASERS at the same time (for the news and the Prosecutor and the trial judge) and I never **** my self. I even TASERed a couple of reporters for the cameras and they had no problems.

The 20 or 30 times I used it on the public in the first year I had no **** or **** incidents, did have a guy crack his head open on a curb, but thats it.
