Can a Texas peace officer direct me to the website that sells the penal code booklet? Our instructors showed us a green booklet or clear booklet that had the penal laws and penalties without all the long explainations. It is a much smaller book than the normal traffic and criminal law manual, and would be easy to carry in the car.

Any help would be appreciated.

I have a green booklet that is called "Elements of a Crime, A Law Officer's Guide." I am pretty sure that is the book that you are thinking of. I can't find a website for it but it is published by "CLEAR", Council for Law Education and Research. Their address on the book is PO Box 708, Pflugerville, TX 78691. The phone number is 512-477-3644. Mine is about 4-5 years old so I don't know if it has changed in the meantime. Hope that gets you started in looking for it. It's pretty handy.

Oooops, sorry Bearcat. I meant to ask for a Texas penal code booklet. I assumed a Texas officer might have the booklet and the web address might be inside the booklet.

I suppose someone outside of Texas might actually know something useful. I will tell you if I ever find them. :)

Seriously thanks

If you are talking about the pocket one any uniform shop will have them in stock.

It's what you are looking for....as it's the pocket book that has all the statutes you will need to use in there....I carried one with me at all times when I worked in MO. Our PA was the one who handed them out to us a couple of years ago......then I got our PD to supply them everytime an updated one got released.......

I carry the Federal one now on me......

If you live in the Houston area you can go to Pro Defense and pick one up. They also have the red book concerning search and seizure.

Just wanted to make sure you knew that the book from CLEAR is not a pocket sized book. It is a legitimate sized book (about the size of a paperback). Not too thick though so it is easily kept within reach.

Sorry to bring up an old topic, but I have a question. Is the CLEAR book for all peace officers in all states or is this written for Texas law?

Thanks!

Man,

The best Texas criminal code book used to be the Gould Texas Criminal Law and Motor Vehicle Handbook. Gould was bought out by Lexis Nexis and the new one sucks *****. They quit printing them in 2004. http://bookstore.lexis.com/bookstore/product/62445.html <---- is the new one.

Has anyone seen or used the one called the Pocket Brainbook? It's popped up on the ads when searching for gear on google. The website says it has pretty much everything; all the Penal Law, Vehicle and traffic, Health & and safety, and more in a pocket sized book for $14.

We used to get a pocket sized PC and a Traffic book, but this last time we got a larger spiral bound book that I carry in the glove box. And it's in the glove box and the truck's in the shop so I can't give you the info right now.
