Thought I'd start a thread dedicated specifically to the July '07 academy. I have my mini-medical on June 6th.
Latest news is the academy will start July 9th.
I live in orange county, so I'm unsure as to if I'm going to commute, or possibly move down to Queens with some family for the academy.

A fellow Orange County guy, huh? I was starting to think I was the only one. I'm going to try to hold off moving to the city for as long as possible, but I'll at least be moving to Rockland.
I have my mini medical on June 1.

Thanks for wishing me luck! I appreciate it!
Nice to see another local, I'm from the Monroe/Chester area. I've heard its pretty feasible to take the train to the academy, so I may do that.
Maybe we can find some more locals, and maybe try to commute together, or at least take the train together!

I know this is a dumb question, but where can you park for the academy (I know it’s in the city and it's better to take the train). I've heard that most people car pool with other cadets, but where is there to park? I've been to the academy and there is no parking around there, across the street is a hospital. Is there a near by area maybe; any current or former cadets have any suggestions?
Or does anyone know if cadets can ride the train for free still? I believe that they used to, but I don't know anymore.

Exit24 yes you can ride the train for free, just as long as you have your id.

06-04-2007, 07:21 PM
exit24, as a recruit you cannot park anywhere near the academy, they actually give you a map of places you cannot park, and they have people paid to make sure you don't park there. Best place to park is in a garage nearby, but that costs money. go east and south of the academy and you might (stress might) find a legal spot. Take the train, its soooo much easier and much cheaper. Save the driving for the range. You have to pay if they ask on the train because technically the free ride is for armed officers. But most of the conductors are cool.

It seems like kind of a catch-22, because everyone says not to drive but as far as I can see, if you take the train (Metro North) the earliest you can get to Grand Central is around 0600. Which might be okay if your day starts at 0700 and you don't have far to go from there. But if your day starts at 0600 (which is the time the detective at the mini medical said we would need to be at Brooklyn College), what other option is there but to drive? Get shot out of a cannon? Parachute in? Fast-rope out of a hot air balloon?

But then i guess it also depends where you live. Anyone know how far the acedemy is from grand central?

"Mini-medical" is a misnomer. There's nothing medical involved. You fill out paperwork for 5 hours and then they shave one of your legs for a drug test. That's it.

Not me. Just once, thank god - I had never talked to a shrink before and I hated that part.
Did they tell you you're on hold?
saxyjc
06-06-2007, 09:45 PM
They tell you to be at Brooklyn College early because they line you up, make you all pay your fees and seat you according to your name. If there are a lot of you, get there way early so you don't stand in line all day. But they normally don't start letting people in till 7 anyway. Remember, it is Brooklyn, so if you drive, don't leave anything expensive out in your car or it won't be there when you come back. Street parking there is hit or miss, but much better than Manhattan. If you get in to Manhattan for the academy at 6, you are fine. Take the 6 train from GCT to 23rd street and you're right there. No need to be too early, you'll just stand around waiting for it to start. But do not under any circumstances be late, and if you are you'd better have a name of a train conductor who will state under oath that the train was late.

I took the written test at some high school on Pearl Street, right next to the Brooklyn Bridge. I drove down and parked near the South Street Seaport, a couple of blocks away. I think the test started around 10am.
You didn't receive an admission slip yet? That should have all the details on it, and you'll need it to get in the door.

yea i know they say i should get it by next tuesday i got my #5 tip thing they send to your email you register at lol So damn all the way down there? I dont understand why they dont make a couple different places on the main test date. Im sure they have alot of people taking it.. like people from west. put. rock. and orange take it in the bronx people on LI take it in Queens or something then everyone else in Manhattan.. i really dont feel like driving down there ive never done it before... i think i might just take the train
Kafziel
06-07-2007, 09:55 AM
The train is probably your best bet. I think all you need to do is take Metro North from wherever in Westchester to Grand Central, and then the 6 from Grand Central to the Brooklyn Bridge/City Hall stop. It's a pretty short walk from there.
Just wait 'til the fitness test - waaaay out on the far end of Staten Island. And no trains there.

just got back from my JST, guys don't take it lightly, i watched 2 females fail by running out of time at the trigger pull...i myself in decent shape but kind of underweight (6'3" 160lb) male found it a bit tough towards the pull and push machine...the pull wasn't too bad but the push in was a bit rush....especially with the weight belt dragging my pants down, i litteraly was holding the belt and my pants with one arm while i was running around the triangle and when i got to the dummy pull, my quads were just giving out fast and again that weight belt was dragging my pants down still...the trigger pull was very easy for me not a problem but some people couldn't pull it (don't know why)...in any case just make sure to secure the belt tightly or it will be a pain in the *** running around with that belt falling off.
ps-that fence was a joke, don't be intimidated by it
Kafziel
06-13-2007, 11:38 AM
Yeah, a lot of people laugh at the JST, but it's no joke. I've said in another thread that I was much more winded after that than I am after the typical push-ups/sit-ups/1.5. When I took it there was not a single female who passed it on the first try, and I don't remember anybody walking away saying how easy it was.

They don't, you will be rushed through your interview, psych, JST and mini medical, then your BI will continue for 2 years after you are hired. So the long and short of it is that your BI really isn't completed before they accept you into the academy.

As for the interview i am a bit worried about how it went because i was in there for about an hour and my doctor was pretty rude and it seemed like she wanted to push my buttons. I hadn't remembered exact dates on a few things that happened over 10 years ago an she was really riding me about it.

A backfill class is essentially people who had met all the requirement standards but weren't called, people who completed processing too close to the class start date or for people like myself who will not be 21 by the start date but will be 21 when the backfill class goes in. My Bi said since its going to be a small class to begin with they are going to try to process as many people as they can and if they dont make the first class they will make the backfill.

Unfortunately, from what I've been told by about two dozen people who have gone through the NYPD academy, you'll be lucky to get notice as early as next saturday. Two of the people I know got calls at 6pm and 10pm on sunday, to report on Monday.
At the mini-med they told us that the list goes by list seniority. So if you're on an older list #, you will get a call first. If you took test recently, you may wait until sunday to hear anything.

I've had quite a few people tell me what to expect at the academy. All of them have said get ready to be extremely dedicated! Don't let the mind games get to you, and stick in it. As far as changing, I'm pretty sure they want you to report in uniform and then you change into PT clothes and such while at the academy, but I'm not sure, I can check.

If your good to go and the academy has already started then you will be put into the backfill. Backfill is for people who were not ready for the first class due to age or any other holds. The backfills usally go in two weeks after the start date, (EX) last Jan class went in the 10th and the backfill went in the 20th.

The first couple of weeks we will be in civilian attire. Once the Academy uniforms come in, you must commute to and from the academy in uniform, unless you have an unusual circumstance (like if it were to put your life in danger) that is the only way you can change @ the academy
read the intro to the NYPD it will answer a bunch of questions

Actually my mistake was not taking the test before I graduated college...if I had done that I would have started right after I graduated in 03

Let us know more though..lol How does the uniforms go, can you take out a loan or something to pay for everything since its close to $3,000? well it would be nice if you can give us more detail about the academy when you get a chance, thanks! :(

yup its a VERY long 3 days...prepare for screaming, being scared to sleep, and 1000 new recruits using the bathrooms at the same time lol...these are the days where most ppl in the academy resign (other than after the first trimester test)...its true, you do get to sign up for a $3,000 loan from MCU...you will spend about $2000-3000 (ballpark amount) on uniforms, equipment, and other stuff along the way...just stay awake, shut your mouth & listen to what they have to say (they will take deportment cards or issue command disciplines at Brooklyn College if you don't follow the rules to a "T", I seen it happen)...you'll soon know what those things are in due time lol....other than that, its 3 days of paperwork, instructors in your face & other B.S.....you guys are gonna be in the heat on that line in Brooklyn College, I was there when it was like 12 degrees outside at 6am, not cool lol

How is the work load while in the Academy? I heard the work is hours of studying a night and a lot to absorb. Also I started a thread on the Academy Tests and I only got one decent reply. I just wanted to know hows the tests in the academy...

Yes at lot of b.s. that is also accompanied by prestigue not 2 mention the fact that we will be making the city a tiny bit safer for your family!! Its insane bcuz police officers get little or no recognition for doing great things for this city but when one things goes wrong officers are under a microscope..but it all pays in the end! I guess it depends on the reason y u wanna be a cop...frankly for myself its not about the money at the moment I'm an assistant psychologist at a group home and im making way more than i'll make with NYPD but ever since I was a little girl I wanted 2 b cop and thats what i'm doing following my dream even if it bcomes a nightmare at the academy..lol..I can always go back 2 my career whenever I choose 2!!!

they called me the Sunday night (Jan 8) before the academy start date (Jan 10)...pretty decent timing to me...a lotta ppl were called on the same morning we started at Brooklyn College like 2am-3am & had to be there for 7am...lucky for me i didn't get to experience that

If it's all about the money then work on wall street in a suit. Not to many people wake up everyday and love their job.

can i get some serious input on my situation:
i scraped up my left leg and its still healing, (shin area), my heel is bruised a bit some it hurts to kind of walk on it. I did sprain my ankle but thats healed already. In any case i did not inform my investigator since i did not want to be put on medical review or anything. So right now im fighting a swollen foot, bruised heel and my cuts on my leg (shin area). I'm limping/gimping when i walk, it hurts to put pressure on the heel (obviously). really can't wear a sock or shoe cause it'll aggrevate the cuts, i COULD theoretically wrap the cut up lightly and put a sock over it, however my swollen foot also prevents me from fitting into my shoes properly. Its thursday night, 3 more days for me to heal up, kinda worried...
so i am pondering calling up my investigator tom (friday) and asking to see if i can go into backfill, but i don't want to be put on review in a sense where i might be delayed to jan cause i do not need that long to heal up. I know i can heal by backfill, i can properly be 100% like 2-3 days into brooklyn college but again im not sure what to do/tell my investigator or not and see if it's possible to get into backfill. again my ankle is fine, but my foot is still a bit swollen and heel is bruised so makes walking a bitch hence limping/gimping around. advice highly needed.

0130 hrs on Monday morning, no calls, nothing. I contacted candidate relations multiple times, and I've been told that I just had to be patient, and they couldn't check my name because the computer system is down.
I've jumped through so many hoops up until this point its absolutely ridiculous. You would think that if something came up in the investigation, they would contact you. As far as I knew, my investigator said I was good to go.
But than again, every single NYC employee I've spoken to about this had this consoling message: "Well, get used to it, that's how they operate"

Yes, after the whole process and passing everything I called APD sunday and was told I am not on the list because of something still held up in psych. I have no info on a counceling session I had once over 12 years ago. I have no records and can not remember who or exactly where it was. I know it was in Az, but not exactly what city. Gave the notarized statement of what the session was about (benign) but 12 year old paperwok has stopped the process for me. Great hua?

Thats nothing one of the Diallo cops was a certified EDP and they have quite a few in the last academy and the one before that.
Thats the NYPD for ya, they will bypass qualified canidates for a couple of wack jobs it doesn't make sense
Just who exactly are you referring to as an EDP? I want to hear a name, those cops were railroaded...
Regarding bypassing qualified applicants, I have heard there is a lawsuit pending from a group of vet's being held up in psych. Basically what it comes down to in this liberal, cop-hating city is that white males need not apply. They are looking for a certain aplicant.

I never got called for today's class, and I am a City employee (NYC Correction Officer). This is an utter outrage and I am very furious. If anyone should have gotten called, I should have because I deal with the criminals inside jail. If I can deal with them without the use of guns, I sure as hell can handle them on the streets. Something is terribly wrong here. My investigator told me two weeks ago that I am good to go, and here I am rejected, with all hope lost. Do you all see how they are treating a fellow City Employee like myself? For everyone that is still waiting, try calling this number:

This is for candidate relations. I called today since my investigator was at Brooklyn College, and the officer told me that there will be a backfill class next Wednesday, July 18. They also told me that I need to speak with my investigator on what the hell happened. All I ever hear on this board and any board for that matter is how much the NYPD badly needs officers, how they're always short of recruits, etc. And then I read through posts like this and see perfectly good candidates getting passed over? It doesn't make any sense. I thought NYPD was hurting bad and it would be generally easier to get on with them then another department. I guess not.

I havent got in contact w/ my investigator in almost a week. I think they should change that during the hiring process because I think a lot of people are losing interest whe they keep calling and showing an effort and no one is their to recprocate. I am forces tomorrow to call every number now so they know iam still interested in the back class. They dont understand how the pay isnt hurting the recruiting its word of the mouth that's hurting them. Hope all goes weel for all of us in the back class that suppose to be starting July 18th.

I finally got a hold of my investigator this mourning at Lefrak. She told me that my paperwork has not been processed completely and that there is nothing that is holding me back in terms of needing extra information about me or anything negative coming up in my background check. She told me today that her Lieutenant came by her desk earlier asking if I was still interested in the backfill class and still on the list. My investigator told the Lieutenant that he is beyond ready. So all in all, I seem to be (unofficially) in for the backfill class next Wednesday, July 18. My investigator even told me that the current class right now is about a mere 800, no where near what the class should be, and some people after the first day already quit! For anyone that has not handed in their paperwork yet to their investigator, she told me that those candidates may have to wait for the January 2008 class. My investigator told me that when everything is complete, she will let me know as soon as possible. She spoke to me with the mindset that I will be in for next Wednesday. So for everyone else who was not called yet, call your investigator as soon as possible.

NYPD is not the end of the road
To me, the NYPD is the end of the road, because I work on Rikers Island and it is really a horror, especially right now with this heat wave. The NYPD is the only civil service job that has contacted me for hiring. There is no air conditioning within the jails, unless you bring your own food, you have to eat the inmate food for a 40 minute meal break. I can go on and on about NYC Department of Corrections (NYDC) and how much the job honestly sucks regardless if you make more money there than in NYPD. As for the NYC Sheriffs exam, I never took it since I thought NYDC was going to be good, but I am dead wrong and regret not taking that exam. But thanks for the heads up on the other exams you mentioned, I wil be looking into them. Also everyone, NYS Police is having an exam, I urge everyone to apply and take that exam.

But I have one question shouldnt I be taken off age hold now since the start of the backfill will be after my 21st b-day (16th), any help would be great...

Is that so? where are you getting your info from? there are plenty of white males otj and in the academy so what are you talking about?
Exactly, the academy is predominately white males........ I think you need to know what you're talking about before you make a statement like that.

There are 900 of us in the class now... Yes, some people have quit already.

to be honest the way the NYPD goes your not gonna go untill Jan 08. It took me almost 2 weeks just to contact my investigator and set up a meeting w/ her to hand in my paper work. The hiring process is just redic but if this is what you wanna do then you suck it up like I did.

The paper work is crazy, and you dont wanna rush anything because like me they waited to the day before all paper work had to be in to tell me they didnt recieve something that I mailed in. Just make sure your on top of ALL your paper work every time you go do anything with the NYPD and organize EVERYTHING. Their gonna say they never recieved things meanwhile its in your folder. What you should do is make a copy of EVERYTHING for your own file and date it when it was handed in so their is no problem with paper work.

Yesterday in the New York Post, they had an article about the July 2007 NYPD class. There are currently 924 recruits for that class. For the backfill class, the NYPD is expected to hire an additional 125 or more recruits. So they need people, their head count for officers is about 2,000 less. So they are in bad shape with staffing. Just continue what you are doing because they do need people. Not only that, but throughout the academy, people quit and will get terminated for various reasons.
Also yesterday, I bumped into a friend back from college who graduated this past June. She got assigned to the 71 Precinct in East New York, Brooklyn, an Impact Zone Precinct. She told me that on shield day, which is the day everyone gets their shields and what command they are assigned to, several recruits quit that same day since they were going to the rough Impact Zone Precincts. She also told me that four new officers who were sent with her to the 71 Precinct quit after their first day of working in the Precinct. She also told me that those recruits who claimed they have connections within the NYPD went to the Commands of their choices.

I hate to tell you this, but you more than likely, honestly definately are not going to make it for the backfill class next Wednesday July 18. My friend, also a fellow NYC Correction Officer did the whole process (agility, psych), passed everything but never handed in his COMPLETED paperwork. He called his investigator two days ago and she told him that it is way too late for him to make it for the backfilll class next week. If you are starting everything now, especially if you have not handed in your paper, you will have to wait for January 2008. The only miracle that can happen right now is if the backfill class is pushed further back because initially, I heard that the backfill class was July 23. But this does not look like it is happening since my investigator told me that July 18 is the last chance to make it for the current NYPD class.

Well you need a certain type of mentality to be an NYPD officer in an impact precint. Its nothing going to be a cake walk and I've always said for those who grew up in the city and in the tough neighborhoods they pretty much can get through anything.
And yes those with CONNECTIONS will go to commands of their choices and get cushion assignments
LOL I think the 71 (or the majority of BN) is beyond what I would consider a "tough neighborhood", I can think of a few names which might not be appropriate here...

the last day of brooklyn college there was only 887 recruits (after resignations :O) then there are more than a few resignations the past two days, so figure there is like 825 recruits left roughly. honestly if you get put into impact (which is suppose to be 2/3 of the people) just suck it up, its part of the job. BN is probably one of the worst precincts to go into. if you can't handle being on your feet 8+ hrs a day, just quit now and don't waste your time, you will be dumped onto foot post/patrol when you get out no doubt about it.

And the majority of NYPD officers from what I understand do not live within the 5 boroughs of NYC. This same girl who I was talking about that graduated from the June class told me that she was the only person in her company that lived with the City of New York. Correct I have been a city dweller all my life, I know the in's and outs of NYC so for me to be an officer the NYPD will be a piece of cake. Only thing thats holding me back is the pay but I'm still leaning more and more towards NYPD because there is endless room for advancement and that you don't get nowhere else in any LE agency.
I know the Sgt's just settle on a contract that will give them a top pay of 100k with 5 yrs puls as sgt and those with 1 to 5 yrs will start at 75k

I am guessing not a lot of people scored great on it. For 1 they had a high failure rate on the pat test, a lot of guys couldn't make that 12.35 1.5 mile run.
Secondly the written exam was 5 hrs long and strictly reading comprehension. No math or anything.

man this class is that low? Who here has night tours and which OCI? I just graduated last class and yes... "hooks" are important if you wanna go to someplace cushy. I got my hook from networking with the fraternal organizations and I'm in Midtown South Impact... which is times square. So far about 2 weeks into the job I enjoy it, some of my friends in the 75 and the 73 aren't having a "bad" time either. The people who quit are pansy's and basically weak, because I have a friend from my company from suffolk... never really been in a ghetto area before in his life or the city really, and ended up in the 75... was totally upset but he's still there saying he's just writing parkers.... obviously there's something wrong there since he should be collaring up, but the people who quit just can't handle anything in life...
after 6 months in academy, you should stick it out definitely...

I am hoping to get this call today because today I am letting my boss know its the last day at work. I work at an airport and I need to hand in my port authority ID otherwise their is a big problem and my investigator is almost impossible to get in touch with. Last I spoke w/ her I had to drop off my transcript and thats it, I spoke to her boss the Sgt. and he said he just signed off my folder which could be "OK'ing" me for the backclass. What's going on is a lot of reading, studying, and homework...... You'll see when you get there.. Maybe not the homework part for you, it all depends on your OCI (Official Company Instructor) My OCI is a former high school teacher so my company gets homework every night. Hope to see you in the academy.....
This is absolutely terrible. I finished everything on time. Handed in everything when it was needed and completed every test that was asked of me. Only after I called my investigator on July 9th, after not receiving a call to attend academy, did I find out that I have been on Psych Review. Despite calling my investigator and leaving messages about 5 times asking if there is anything she needed or anything that I should know regarding my attending the July class, she neglected to call me and let me know that I am on review and that I might not get into the July class, or any class for that matter. No matter who I call, no one can tell me anything as to what is wrong or whether I am disqualified or not. I don't know what to do. This is really frustrating.

As I drove off the Rikers Island Bridge for one last time early this mourning at around 8:30 AM, I did not even bother to turn around. Thankfully, they did not stick me for overtime, but I did report just to be on the safe side. What a relief it is to no longer be working for the Department of Corrections. I want everyone to try and post what goes on at bklyn college and the academy so when i walk into it in jan I have a slight idea on what to expect. Post, post, post!!!
I know you start at 7am, I'd still like to know what time you are done for the day?

As I drove off the Rikers Island Bridge for one last time early this mourning at around 8:30 AM, I did not even bother to turn around. Thankfully, they did not stick me for overtime, but I did report just to be on the safe side. What a relief it is to no longer be working for the Department of Corrections. Right now, I feel so relaxed in over 1 year that I have been working for the Department of Corruption/Confusion/Conflict. I think I am going to enjoy the NYPD a lot more than NYCD.
Don't count on it- expect same crap, different "grass" to walk on-been buzzing thru your posts and i still don't get the feeling that you "understand" that L.E. isn't some heroic "fantasy world" where wearing a badge makes things all BETTER.Remember that you are "blessed" and alot of folks wanted to be a NYC DOC officer and YOU still got the job .Ditto now for NYPD Officer.I work with a guy who came from CA.Dept of corrections- California has nearly 200,000 felons incarcerated and prisons that more than match or exceed the violence and madness of what you have seen in NY.CDC officers are full peace officers in the state of CA.( what you guys call "police authority" vs. peace officer authority) he was quickly surprised at the "difference"-despite all the training and the experience( with violence and criminal activity he saw on the "inside"); on the "streets" trying to control somebody is alot different from in custody, and ALOT more dangerous.Add to that the politics of the job-you will see the same crap ,only played out on a different field this time.So don't get too "relaxed"-use the tactics that worked to kept a shank from gutting you on the island on the streets, learn to STAY humble, even when they are ****ing you off ( suspects as well as citizens),and LEARN not to bad mouth your organization-no matter where you go -"people KNOW people",and alot of coppers have family ,friends, associates everywhere From NYC DOCs to NYPD ( from NYs"Boldest" to Ny's "finest") -this could one day turn around and SLAP you in the FACE.HARD. Good luck in the academy and your career. No matter where you go in L.E.,there is NO such thing as a "dream" job-every dept and agency has its ups and downs-learn to appreciate the "up"s rather than concentrate on the downs....

I come from NYC Corrections also, and I can tell you that everything he said is true... NYC Corrections is not for everyone.. I felt the same way he felt... Now that I'm in the NYPD academy I can see the difference already.... You would have to work that agency to understand what he's feeling.

Understood. But when you move ,you move on-harping about the "Bad" you've experienced can ,and from what I've seen, will seep into you r current experiences.Let it go and you think clearer about what you've got to deal with "TODAY".Ironically enough, one of my first bosses was a retired Sgt with NYC DOCs -Vincente Esposito.a hard ,but fair man with the wierdest sense of humor. He'd always say that "not for nuthin' but you'se California folks crack me up".he'd tell us the horror stories of places like the Tombs and Rikers, but he'd also say this- "thats life ,and what can you do?" move on,I've learned, make the best of what you got, stand up when its time to ,and pray for the rest............

You 100% right when you say its not for everyone. My gilfriends father is a retired Captain at rikers and has been busting my ballz since I been going thru the NYPD hiring process. He loves being a CO at rikers and I told him the samething, its not for everyone. Just cuz he liked it and had a great career doesnt mean I will. I wanna become a cop and in Jan 08 when I enter the academy my dream will begin to come true. It's not like me to work in a jail for 8+ hours. I do not think that NYPD is a dream job. First off, in Corrections, you are incarcerated as well. In NYC, the department's rules favor the inmates more than they favor us as officers. As stated in previous posts, the working conditions in DOC are horrible. Right now, all the jails on the island are ovens. We as officers suffer perhaps more than the inmates because we are wearing uniform pants, a stab proof vest over a t-shirt, and this just burns your upper body. If it is 105 degrees outside, it is about 115 degress inside the jails. At least the inmates can take cold showers and have all the water they need to drink since we are suppose to make sure they have enough ice in their housing area to stay cool. As for us, the rule is a one litter bottle of water on post which is ridiculous. Who is anyone to tell me how much water I should be drinking first of all? Need I say more? As a cop, you can drink as much water as you please, stop at any store to buy drinks. As a CO, you are very limited in what you can have on post such as food. Sometimes you will go for 8-16 hours without a meal relief, and this has happened to me twice. Yet I have to sit there on post watching the scrum of the earth inmates eat all the food they can, not just the meals they are given, but their commissary food? It disgusts me. Now being in the NYPD academy for 3 days now, I already see that the caliber of the instructors surpasses that of DOC, as well as the recruits. I know it is too early to judge, but I will wait until time goes on to make a final determination. As for you comment about how this may backfire, yes it can happen. But if it ever does, I will never return to DOC if NYPD does not work out, believe me. I am not going to go back to DOC, a department where I have lost all respect for.

Being in jail after a while got to me. Especially when they stuck me for a double tour, 16 hours. It sucks, especially when no one in the department works together. Upper management such as captains and beyond do not have our backs, and they look to burn us as officers for everything. They will not serve an infraction to an inmate (which we as officers write) because they look at it as extra paperwork. But yet these Correction Captains have no problem writing us up on charges and Command Disciplines, they do not look at that as extra paperwork. Captains take great pride in writing up officers and not inmates. It is pathetic.

The course will make a difference it is just for show!!!! It will in a way show some proof that you are trying to rehabilitate your driving record. I had a suspended license for failure to appear in court. It was for 3 tickets so they considered it 3 susp. on my license at the DMV.

What were your tickets for? Were they points on your licence that you need to remove with the driving course? I have 2 minor no points tickets from a couple years ago, one was out of state. Wonder if I should be worried.

To be honest I asked about my driving record when I met w/ my investigator because I knew it wasent an angels record and she told me I was fine that it wouldnt hold me back. So if i was you take the driving course, get points off and ask you investigator to go over your record to make sure because they have different standards then the DMV from what my Sgt. told me. They have a different point system that they go through. Dont let the NYPD do anything, you ask all the questions about any doubt that you have about the hiring process or about your past!

Hey guys I spoke with a cousin who just retired from NYPD, he said he was very optimistic about the new contract and retro pay for the officers. He thought the new starting pay will be 40ish for a rookie but he also stated it's been 4 years w/o a contract and the city is in no rush.
I guess the city is starting to realize that a higher base should attract additional/better candidates. With all the current retirement/transfers and small academy classes NYC will have some big manpower problems moving forward.
Good luck guys.

Question for all of you who are in the NYPD Academy or are going to be...where are you all living? At home? With family or friends? I'm just curious if anyone is actually able to pay rent with the low pay. Is there any possible place you could live where it would be cheap enough to rent an apartment?

august 1 was THREE years w/o a contract. the pba will likely get what all the others got:3,3.15and 4.that puts starting pay around 28k. no where near 40k
So, since I wasn't accepted into the July class ("still on Psych Review" is the reason I got) what do I do from now until the Jan class? Am I still considered a candidate? Do I have to redo all of my paperwork/tests? Do I have to maintain contact with my investigator? I really have no idea how this works and it's quite frustrating.
Also, does anyone know whether or not you actually ever receive a "denied" letter saying that you can't be a police officer? or do they just not tell you anything?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

keep calling and annoying them and finding out the reason to why you're on hold and what else you need to do. usually if the investigator says nothing else, you just sit tight... I was placed on hold twice but it was for traffic tickets that needed to get cleared up.
