Do any colleges or universities in NYS have peace or police officer status besides SUNY Police?
What about CUNY Public Safety, NYU, NYIT, Columbia, Cornell, etc? I know most Community Colleges have security guard status but will this ever change to peace officer status? Any counties looking into this?
At Suffolk CC West where I go we have unarmed campus public safety who patrol all 3 SCCC campuses, Suffolk Police (academy at west campus only), Suffolk Sheriff (patrols county property) and then we have a NY State Police barracks right across the street. Needless to say I think the campus is quite secure!

the pay is very good for a non sworn campus dept. The dept. is probably one of the highest paid for a non-sworn dept. start is 43k base, officers make 57k-90k with overtime. 29 officers 8 hour tours. you need all your certifications prior to being hired. they now give a test at that job (LIU CW Post). Good job
