Maybe this is just my imagination, but, I just drove (and drove, and drove) across the great state of Texas this weekend. I set my cruise at about 3-4 over the posted limit not knowing local customs and figured I'd adjust to the flow as I went. I don't think I was passed more than 3 times across the entire state. The kicker is, I only saw three cops the entire time too. Two troopers and a Childress local. Do people always drive that slow and polite down there or did I just end up in a taping of the twilight zone?

Don can probaably confirm this for me. You try to drive 3-4 over on I-15 between LA and Vegas and you will get honked at, yelled at, flipped the bird, and on New Year's Eve weeekend, probably shot at. And, we have two troopers and two metro on most times on the 32 mile Nevada stretch. Just an observation.

You apparantly weren't on an Interstate because I run the speed limit +5 & I get blown off the road. State highways are a little slower because they are a little bumpier, windier (?), & have towns stuck on them with stop lights & stop signs. But overall, motorists around here were told that they could do 70 again & they took that to mean ANYWHERE!

Hope you enjoyed your trip across our Great State!

Yes, after I retired I used to make the run from St. George Utah to LA on a regular basis. North of Vegas, people pretty much stayed with the speed limit. However south of Vegas, you were holding up traffic if you were driving 90.

I take that stretch of SH287 when my wife and I go to Wyoming. It's always deserted and most folks that are on the road are polite. There is always one Trooper that hides in the ONLY low spot in the road just north of Childress. Can't see him 'til you top the hill. Just have to remember DPS gives 6 over the limit before they stop. I don't know about the county/city guys anywhere around there.

BTW, if you take that route again either in Dalhart or Dumas there is an old fashioned sandwich shop that serves the best malts and subs I have ever had. And they are extremely inexpensive.
