Anyone have any information on this dept's process following the test? Also, andthing (first hand) about the department would be great. I just received my score from the November exam, and am looking for any information available. Thanks guys and gals!

Anyone? Haha, I can't be the only one on here who took it?

PP48, I think the issue holding me (I have taken the city exam) and many others from taking that job is the joke of a top pay, and the corrupt treatment of MOS by the city.

I too just received my score of 95, which puts me 37th on the list. But according to the website, there are 133 other people tied for 37th, so I assume it will be a while before I hear anything from them. Any info would be great.

Even though it took a while for the test results to come out, I thought it would take even longer with those mess-ups they had on the test.

I know the goal is to hire 12 full-time. I don't know if they are going to try and exhaust the old list first, as they were talking about doing (I HOPE NOT!). I actually got a 100, which made my day, but so did 36 other people, so we'll see. Hopefully they want to hire a bunch of people! Good luck to everyone, and keep all posted with any info. P.S. My sentiment is the same as the earlier poster about bad treatment and pay with NYPD. My hands are in several different agencies hiring processes, so something should pan out. Not that I am not happy where I am, but I want something different.

From what I understand, the Park Police are now being represented by the Deputy Sheriff's union for all contract talks, instead of just being part of AME. Hopefully the Park's will get a better deal once they get an actual police contract. How big is the Suffolk County Park Police anyway?

They aren't up to max numbers, but as per the minutes of the SCPT, if they hire around 12 from this list, they will be up to max, which is at about 47-50 officers. Did anyome who took the SCPP test, also take the SCPD test from a few years back? And if so, anyone think they are similar? Also, any new word since we got our scores from anyone?

SDC1983

I got my SCPP score in the mail afew days ago (95), but nothing since then. Probably too early, but if they're processing alot of the 90's from the last SCPD test for a class coming up, who knows if they're going to want to get any Park guys in there as well.

If the PP test is any sign on what to expect on the PD test, I'll be a happy camper. I don't know what to expect from the personality portion I keep hearing about, but I'll take my chances over the math or memory. I've taken two Suffolk civil service tests (PD and Dep) and neither had any memory parts.

The SCPD test and the SCPP test are completely differnet. Don't think there are similar, as it will work to your disadvantage. I got a 100 on the test, and received an orientation invitation in the mail about 3 days ago. It is set for April 27th as I recall. As I mentioned earlier, the SCPP's goal is to hire 12 new full-timers (hopefully off the new list, and not the old...fingers crossed). Therefore, if they can get 12 good people through the process, an academy would likely be around January of this upcoming year.

I was on the old parks exam list got called went to orientation. SCPD does the background check. you had to hand in your applicant packet about a week after orientation. So get your info together now i.e social security info, tax info, selective service, bills, etc. PT was about two and half weeks after orientation. SCPD does the PT test and they dont play games I would say there was about 50 people at my PT test and 40 of us failed the pushups and situps with only ten moving on to the run. you get a thirty day retake if you fail the PT. I wasnt happy with the salary or the steps in salary but the job itself sounded great. good luck

hey glad to help, the orientation that I went to was at the police academy gym and it was filled with everyone who scored a 90. they will explain all aspects of the job and you will be able to defer at that time if your not sure about moving on. just pay attention to every thing about the paper work. You dont want to be the guy who calls SCPD applicant investigations unit and say "Hi this is Park Police Officer Canidate Peconic and can you help me with..." click as they hang up on you. that was always a fear of mine with that department. its silly but I laugh now.

Yup Yup. Hey, did you (or are you) including photos of yourself with the applicant packet? The reason I ask, is that after readint he packet a million times, there is no requirement for a photograph (which I have always had to do in the past)???

richbrown123456
05-02-2007, 02:41 PM
I didn’t put any photos not sure if you should have but mine is handed in already so I guess its to late for me. Question about the sit-ups I know they went over it at the orientation but you think you can try and refresh me on the proper way there going to have them done. Hands locked behind head but do your hand have to touch the floor each time down and do your shoulders have to be out straight or can they be bent forward to touch your knees and how far do you have to go up. Also what part of your body has to be touching the ground the whole time is it your lower back or you butt? Sorry I guess its a stupid question but I just want to make sure i am doing them perfect for practice so when I go in there for the test I don’t completely blow it

Peconic
05-02-2007, 06:13 PM
I didn't include any photos, it was not asked for, so we should be ok. Hands clasped the whole time, butt cannot leave floor or that rep doesn't count, shoulders must hit floor (not hands) or rep doesn't count, must break 90 degree plane (towards knees) or rep doesn't count. You can rest in the up position, but we only have a minute, so unless you, me or anyone else is at around 35 reps with fifteen seconds to go, I wouldn't rest. Good luck!!! Shoot for passing the first time, not the re-test, and we should be good!

I am really not sure?? We have the PT, and a one month re-test timeframe, so if we pass, medicals would probably be after the initial BI interview....I guess-timate would be around July. But that is complete speculation. As far as the eye sight is concerned, I know in my Federal process(s), they allowed for lasik, but I think it had to have been done in a certain amount of time before applying. But again, no idea, I'd bring it up to the BI at that time. Good luck! Oh, how are your run times, sit-ups and push-ups??

It is NOT seasonal. They have seasonals, but the c.s. test and orientation we went to was for full-time. The person who told ya that is mistaken. They said was like 65,000 after some years, but that is base pay. Its not as bad as everyone says.

Congrats on passing!, I just passed my PAT about 2 hours ago (RELIEF!). I believe we started with about 30+ and 12 of us were there at the end, what about your group? As for the eyes, I believe the requirements are for corrected vision. How bad was your vision (i.e 100/200, 20/68, etc)?

I guess ill find out tommrow i tried calling them but they are already closed and the applicant ivestigation didnt know. yea we ened up with 21 i believe 3 of which were suffolk pd so 18. Honestly nothing to crazy just a couple of tickets that are to recent they said and the fact that I am 21 and I was drinking 12 months ago when I wasn’t suppose to be didn’t look to good in there eyes.
I actually am an idiot I told her I got a speeding ticket of 90 in 55 when it was really a imprudent speed ticket (the officer wrote the violation number on the ticket not matching what he gave me, 90 in a 55 forcing them to give me the lower violation) I didn’t even realize this mistake until I left the interview because it was so long ago and 90 in a 55 was just stuck in my head but I don’t think it would have made a difference I still have 3 points on my license
There was other things said that didn’t make me look that great but those are the two big factors she said. Ehh it’s really depressing but everyone says i am young but now I feel like i am not good enough for anyone to take me

Did you have your interview yet? How did it go? Good luck

Yea, I had it a couple of weeks ago. I guess it went ok, but there is no way to tell. B.I.'s aren't there to be our friend, so no clue really. I have been getting some more documents that were requested, and a few people have been contacted by my investigator. We'll see. Don't be defeatest in your thinking, people make mistakes. If you show you have corrected them, you'll likely be fine in the future. I am a bit shocked they dropped you for a speeding ticket, and drinkng under 21, but I guess they have their reasons. Again, I am sorry, and I wish ya tons of luck with any other depts to which you apply!!!

Im not 100% positive but all departments in Suffolk (County Police, County Sheriff, County Park Police and all 20ish town and village police forces) use the same academy that is run by the Suffolk County Police and if it is canceled then everyone is canceled. SCPD instructors teach everyone but Deputy Sheriffs, Correction Officers and I think Park Police who are all thought by Sheriff's Office instructors.

Can someone explain to me this whole deal with the Sheriff PBA and the Park Police? Why did the Park Police join the Sheriff PBA if they are a totally different agency? Are they looking to merge into the Sheriff's Office?

nyc2235
07-28-2007, 07:14 PM
before Park PD became covered by Sheriff PBA their union was a civilian park union, They wanted to be covered by a Law Enforcement union, so they went to SCPD PBA, they turned them down, then went to SCSD PBA and they took over Park PD representation.

They are not looking to be merged with Sheriff's Dept. just Law Enforcement union representation.

I'll keep dredging her up!:) Hows everyones movement? I have been done with all the stages for a while (except for a form that got misplaced, but he said its no big deal, and to get it to him this week). My B.I. said he would call me closer to the academy date, which is tentatively scheduled for Sept. 10th. That being said, my B.I. said Steve Levy may not allow for an academy until at the earliest, January. Thats all hearsay, and likely won't happen, as the Suff. PD list would have expired then, and the Department would have to hire from the new list...i.e. loss of thousands, if not more, in B.I. costs from old applicants. So my fingers are crossed. God luck to all, and hope to hear from ya!:D

Hey peconic, was it the budget that was just passed? or just the agreement for the sales tax increase? I know it is good either way, as you and I are in the same boat for SCPP. I just thought that the budget was not going to be voted on until November. But being as the sales tax issue has been resolved, (which was supposedly the major hurdle regarding funding for county law enforcement classes.) then the budget should hopefully be passed with out a problem, as the necessary funds should now be in place.

Congratulations.

If you see a drunk guy in a Suffolk park dressed like a homeless person, but wearing a "Junior Federal Agent" badge, that'll be me. So don't forget professional courtesy. :)

Haha, special detail? J/k, you got it, and thank you!!

Who knows. I scored a 95 on the test, got called last year, completed all phases of the process, and got held out of the academy due to over processing. From what I understand there were around 20+ people who made it through all phases, and only 13 got hired. I was told by my BI that the Park PD wants to hire again, but Levy will not authorize the funding. They are in a freeze just like Suffolk PD. I just hope that they hire again before the list expires.
