AURORA -- -- An Aurora Police officer was airlifted to Swedish hospital Sunday night after rolling his car in a single car accident at the intersection at 6th and Laredo.

Authorities say the officer sustained serious head and chest cavity injuries, and is in critical condition.

Witnesses say the officer was driving with his lights and siren on when he swerved to avoid a car stopped in the middle of the road in front of him. The squad car rolled and did a 180-degree turn and the officer was ejected.

The car that caused the accident sped from the scene. Police are trying to track that car and driver down.

The officer -- whose name is not yet being revelaed (Doug Byrne) until his next of kin are notified -- was responding to a call of a man having an epileptic seizure at a park less than a mile from the accident.

LET'S FIND THE BASTARD WHO CAUSED THIS.......RUN-AWAY POS COWARD

It sure was a hard night to handle at Swedish. All my thoughts and prayers go out to Byrne's family, friends, girlfriend, and the Aurora PD.

Being on midnights I didn't even realize anything happened until I came in tonight and all the officers badges were shielded. My condolances goes out to his family.

Byrne was a great person, very funny and always willing to help us newbies with ANY questions we had.. I couldnt believe it was him that this happened to, and that he was gone.

He will be sorely missed.

Rest in peace Doug
