I was told that unless you're running a marathon...you don't really need anything fancy. I picked up a nice pair of nike running shoes at Marshals for $30 the other day.

Your feet will be with you for the rest of your life, treat them good or they will treat you bad.
2 miles everyother day or 15 miles everyother day it all adds up.
I like New Balance, fit well and look good too. I like the NB Zips. Finishline or Foot Locker are the best places for variety. Go to the Mall. BTW you get what you pay for with shoes.

When are you going to the academy? I am going to PTI in either May or June.
I have asics and I LOVE them. Find a good shoe and it does not have to be the most expensive shoe you see. The trick is though that you buy a quality running shoe. I know a guy who broke his leg running in the academy because of stress from running.
This is what I run in (http://www.asicsamerica.com/products/product.aspx?STYLE_NUMBER=TN704&TITLE_CATEGORY_ID=250001542)
Edit: What Irishluck said is very valid. I hate the shoe stores because I had a pair of Asics go out on me and they would not do anything about it. Asics made it right themselves which was awesome. Now I say just buy strait from the Mfg.

Irishluck is right, New Balance makes some good stuff. Also right about the getting what you pay for.

I agree 100% w/ rtaylor. I have asics gel nimbus VII and love them. Defeinitely best pair I have ever owned, although I am buying the 2120s (like rtaylor has) next, because I tried them on at store recently and fell in love-comfortable and supportive. It is worth it to spend a few extra $$ to prevent pain, injuries, discomfort and to ensure quality. Most Nikes that I buy are quick to tear up.
From friends reviews-New Balance are top notch as well.
Also, be sure not to get trail running shoes, unless you are running trails-they usually have a clunkier sole/heel and tread w/ a lot more rubber protrusions on the bottom. If you are running the roads or at a track, get the asics that rtaylor mentioned, or that I use.

There are many great running shoes out there. Unfortunately, I can't tell you what to get. What I run in (Saucony Omni's) may not be the best choice for you. Go to a dedicated running store and get fitted for a pair of shoes. Your feet will thank you for it in the long run. Everybodies feet are different and matching them up with the right shoe just makes sense.

I've got NB Zips, they are great. I've had them for about 6 months and I run about 15 miles a week (usually on the road or a treadmill). Not too expensive either.
