Hello,
I just wanted to know if anyone has received their training at RIO HONDO and if they put them selves through as Pre Service. I currently am enrolled there and just completed my level III P.O.S.T. I am in the Extended Class, which is 10 months long, and plan to get level I certified. I have had 2 offers while at the academy but the funny thing is that both offers were out of state agencies. We get recruiters up there allot trying to snatch up as many good cadets they can. What are some of your experiences with RIO HONDO?

quite simply this- don't be arrogant or "picky" as far as recruitment goes.sure there are a few "hot shot" Depts that are popular among the cadets there, but remember this-although your fellow cadets passed the min. acceptible requirements to becoming Peace officers in the state of CA( pre service individuals have to have background checks also) some may NOT be able to pass an in depth background.Rio Hondos training format is good and functions well as they have trained personnel for not only the local San Gabriel Vly agencies but almost everyone in So.Calif, and a few out of state agencies as well.Like any academy in CA,there are good and bad things ,mainly the good which prepares you for a future job in L.E.If you have doubts or concerns ,speak to the Academy admin staff or your Tac officers. They ( the tac staff) will not recommend or denounce a particular agency, but they can be helpful in directing you to a Dept that you can be successful in ( technically with the training ,you should be successful anywhere). My advice,if a Dept offers you a job or invites you to apply, and it meets the pay ,environment, and opportunites you want, take the offer(s).......

Thank you for your reply Sir,
My intentions were not to be picky at all. Rio Hondos Tac Staff are great and the Academy is fairly tuff. I can honestly say that the ACADEMY is the hardest thing I have every done in my life. one of the invites for employment were from Washington State. The recruiters came down to talk to our class and it really is not practical for me to move my whole family out there.
I think we will get some real offers once we are in Level II.
