I know when I take the psychological exam, I should be OK in the fact that I'm not crazy.

But answering honestly, I'll most likely be identified as having an introverted personality... Will this hinder my chances of passing the test for a job in corrections?

No, not really. Their are many people who have introverted personalities who are either in the LE or CO field. They just want to know by the test if you will go postal on them over any little thing in regards to an inmate or something.

nope. i know a lot of introvert and quiet deputies. i'm quiet (at least most others tell me that). but as long as you can take action, have command presence, communicate with others, etc... you should be fine...

i learned communication is a big part of law enforcement. you deal with all kinds of people and you have to act confident. i was told by one of my TO's that i have to act confident and in control when dealing with the scumbags, even if I didn't know what i was doing.

Just one point of clarification about introverts...

Introverts are not necessarily the quiet people who shy away from people. By definition, introverts get their energy from within, whereas extroverts get their energy from outside influences. I know many introverts (I am one) who are just as outgoing as anybody else, but when the day is over, I like time with myself and either nobody else, or just a small group...

Too often people confuse introvertism with being incredibly reserved and quiet.. though I suppose extreme introverts would probably be just that..

Just took my psych exam and passed. Being introverted does not disqualify you for a LE career. However, if you answer TRUE to the following questions, it will raise red flags.

I avoid persons who I really dont want to talk to by running across the street to avoid them.

I really love to be alone most of the time.

I do my best to avoid large gathering of people.

I hope you get my drift. Psych exams try to identify personality disorders. The psych also trys to see if you have an issue dealing with the public as a general rule.

Heh, actually I just had mine the other day, she said the tests showed I had a very introverted personality, end of the interview went something kinda like this:
Her: Well I dont see any problems, everything looks good
Me: Great, so I can tell the wife I'm not crazy huh?
Her: Well, I cant certify THAT.

Heh, it went really good, despite my personality and some pretty harsh things about my past we had to talk about. I'd imagine they just want to make sure that introversion doesnt hinder your ability to talk to people, as most of the job is about being around and having to deal with people.

Thanks for the insightful comments. I just wanted to see if they discriminated against the more "quiet" people.
