Hey I have three oral board interviews coming up within the month, and theres one question Im stuck on, and its the simple one, why should we hire you? Do i say things like my education, my prior training, desire to work in LE, I want it to sound good, but not corny. What else should you say? i.e - personality, . ANY advice would be awesome, especially from people that are on panels. ALSO - The question, why do you want to be a police officer? How do you answer that correctly toa panel? Should you say the most obvious, helping the community, things like that? What else? I really need to do well so any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

These are all stock questions, and you seem to have the stock answers.
More than anything, it seems to be a chance to screw it up, rather than a chance to shine. So just don't take that chance.

I would have hoped that panels would come up with more imaginative questions to ask. I mean, really. How many good answers are there for those 2 questions?

God I hated that question. Mine was, "Why do you want to be an Indiana State Police officer?" Very first question!!!! It was awful. So I just flat out told the truth. I told them that my dad was an leo right when got out of the navy and I was always fastinated by the stories he would tell me. I started to work in law enforcement at an early age to help get my foot in the door. I like the idea of going into work, not knowing what your day is going to be like. I like the element of suprise. Now I want to work for the best and strive to be the best female officer ISP has ever had. Blah blah blah...

I don't see why they ask those. I mean hell, they KNOW what the answer will most likely be. I mean come on, you want to be an LEO for the chance to kick alittle ***. :) Of course I didn't say that to a panel though. Have been tempted. I just told them "I want to be an LEO since I enjoy working in the community, wish to help and better my community, and pursue a career that is constantly changing." Of the other, why they should hire you over someone else, I play a little modest. I tell them that yes, there may be better qualified candidates, but I doubt that they have the same drive and desire, the same attention to detail that I would bring to the department. Things like that to make you sound GOOD but not CONCEITED. It all depends though on you and why you want to do this.
