I am interested in becoming a police officer. My question is, can I be hired by any agency with a dishonorable discharge more than 20 years ago? Or, did this one mistake/bad judgement cost me any chances of becoming a law enforcement officer? I have been an ideal citizen since that event as a young man. Please advise. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

It all depends on the department. 20 years passed is a good amount of time. It all depends on what you did, the severity of your actions. Call an agency that your interested in and speak to a recruiter, theyll provide some insight. goodluck to you.

Would say it probably depends on the reason and the department. Alot of the places I applied too, that's one of the main stipulations is "an honorable discharge". If anything else they may DQ. Can only look at each department and see from there. Good luck.
