I am currently an officer (0083) in DC and looking for a change of venue. Does anyone know (good or bad) about these navy positions opening up. I was looking at an 0083 Police Officer/Detective position and would like to entertain some feedback.

What department are you an 0083 P/O with? Not all the bases in the DC region are that bad, I used to work for the NDW police at the navy yard and pretty much hated it. I moved for to the navy hospital in bethesda and pretty much did everything and anything I wanted to do as a patrol officer. Id suggest looking at the base you are intrsted in working at and getting to see how they operate.
Do they do gates? Whats the schedule? Is it 1408's or 1805 citations?

I work for BEP. I am looking into the Navy position located in Kittery, ME. I am also looking into the VA police down in Biloxi, MS. I have a buddy down there working who used to work with us up here. He said it was a pretty good gig!!

I hate to say it but your better off taking the Biloxi job than the Kittery job. Lost I heard is that navy region NE (where Kittery is assigned to) lost its NCIC access. BEP probably pays more than the Kittery job too.
If your intrested in stating in DC, Id suggest looking at US Park police and some of the other agencies.

USPP just opened up an annoucment for 0083s.
They are 6c covered so one must be under 37 to get hired on.....

Roger That!! As you are aware there is BS everywhere you go. I think I'd rather deal with it back home. I am also trying to get out of the high cost of living here. I have two kids and a wife that doesn't work (hopefully will pretty soon). It's hard on the pockets. She's from New Orleans and figure VA in Biloxi would be a good start. Would have to live on the North Shore (Abita Springs, LA) because so many homes were destroyed in Biloxi the cost of living down there is just as much as in DC. No Joke

Nah.. They have lots of posts. Hired big time from 2000-2004 but rumors of them merging with Mint police to create the "US Treasury Police" I guess didnt pan out. I wouldnt be suprised if they still took FLETC laterals.
Good agency if you want to learn lots of technically security. Had several instructors from when I was in FLETC teaching the security classes. Showed videos of folks stealing cut and uncut sheets of paper money.

The place sucks. They still take laterals if they open up. In fact, if you lateral over just after six months you will get promoted before individuals who started there 2.5 years prior to you!! We actually have a pretty large jurisdiction that we patrol. During one point we statistically had more lock-ups and wrote more moving violations than MPD district 1. We have a crew of managers that are business oriented and since last April have kept a tight leash on us. We went from averaging 20-25 lock-ups a month to damn near 0. They are trying to making where we don't want to work there so we can leave which would prevent them from having to shell out $$ if the retirement ever pans out.
