aftermath

Well, I'm 28, a semester away from my 60 hours (I know, nothing special), and have been trying to become an officer for the last few years. I'm just getting to the point I am discouraged with the whole scenario. I was in the Cook County Sheriff's academy last may, and got injured in the first few weeks. That resulted in getting discharged and seriously bummed me out. I had to return to the same boring job after finally getting a shot at what I feel I am meant to do. It's tiresome though. I work my tail off physically and still fail some of the tests. I get past that and fail the psych or the cvsa (haven't had an original poly yet). It's just like one roadblock after another. How is it that I can't get in, but people who are so damn corrupt or questionable can?! Sorry about the rant guys, just looking for some positive feedback that I'm not the only one this happens to.
:(
One other thing. Was curious, I always put down that I was arrested as a juvi back in 1994 for criminal damage to property (young and stupid) and it was dismissed. However, I was curious as to something else. My brother is/was an alcoholic and recently I was asked the "if there is anything else we should know" question. Could he get me DQ'd??

bro an alcoholic? no won't get you DQed.
won't cook county take you back again? or you're failing the same tests that you previously passed? if it's something you want to do , you won't give up. not everyone is fortunate to have been hired the 1st time around. you should read the other thread about how many times officers applied before getting hired. for me = 13 times different agencies. failing polygraphs, psychs, oral boards, etc.. but i didn't give up for the next 3 years. and i finally got my chance.

Not sure as to the politics of Cook County but they said I would have to repeat the whole process again since I was discharged. I had 2 things eat up my injury time (passed out day 1 - didn't sleep well or eat well due to nervous/excited about academy and a few weeks later, got a cut about 3mm on my finger and because I asked for a band-aid, was sent out again) so they had to discharge me according to state regulations. I have trouble passing the 1.5 mile run for Illinois so I've been busting my hump trying to get better times at it but it's a problem for me regardless. I've failed the run on various tests, the psych (in atlanta - though I think it was the CVSA instead and they said psych to cover it). I saw other posts about failing so many times, but it's discouraging regardless. I know you need to just keep at it and eventually it'll come. I hope sooner than later. :o
Note: A friend at a local PD said I should sue CC over that discharge and try to get my position back. Said it was a BS circumstance. Not sure if that would be feesible though.
