I'm inquiring to see what other Departments offer their officers as benefits, or "perks", for being involved as a Field Training Officer of new recruits. Also, what, if any, ongoing education/training do you as FTO's receive. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

We get an 8% pay increase. When selected you have to go through an initial FTO certification course and then mandatory in-service each year afterward.

One of my supervisors is a certified FTO instructor. He certifies other officers as FTO's. While working as an FTO the officer recieve extra pay but only when they have officers to train.

My dept gives $10 a day extra for the days you are actually training. And the self-satisfaction of knowing you are contributing.............

It's required that you have at least two years under your belt, you go to FTO school and are expected to stay abreast of any new training. We also have regular meetings/training sessions.

Our FTO's get an extra $1 per hour for every hour they have a recruit in training. RW
