THIS IS THE CURRENT NEWS ON THE CASE ACORDING TO NBC4 WEBSITE:

Four Men Plead Not Guilty In Slaying Of Possible Murder Witness

LOS ANGELES -- Four men -- including one already charged in the racially motivated shooting death of a 14-year-old black girl in Harbor Gateway -- pleaded not guilty Thursday to killing a man they believed witnessed her slaying.

Jonathan Fajardo, 18, Jose Covarrubias, 20, Robert Gonzalez, 29, and Raul Silva, 31, are each being held without bail pending their next appearance in Long Beach Superior Court on April 4.

A fifth man, Daniel Aguilar, 19, is scheduled to be arraigned March 13.

Also Thursday, Fajardo and another man, Ernesto Alcarez, 20, pleaded not guilty to charges that they killed Cheryl Greene, an eighth-grader at Stephen M. White Middle School, and wounded three of her friends.

The teenager was gunned down Dec. 15 while standing with a group of friends on Harvard Boulevard near 206th Street.

Prosecutors contend the shooting was a hate crime committed for the benefit of a criminal street gang -- an allegation which could make Fajardo and Alcarez eligible for the death penalty. Police have said they believe the girl's killing was racially motivated.

Fajardo, Covarrubias, Gonzalez, Silva and Aguilar -- identified in court documents as "active participants in a criminal street gang" -- are each charged with killing Christopher Ash 13 days after the teen was shot to death. Alcarez is not charged in Ash's slaying.

The 25-year-old man was found lying in the middle of a street in Carson. He had been stabbed 80 times and his throat was cut, authorities said.

The criminal complaint alleges that Covarrubias and Gonzalez used a knife to kill Ash.

Along with murder, the five face special circumstance allegations of intentional murder of a witness to a crime, lying in wait and committing murder to further their gang's activities.

Prosecutors have not yet decided if they will seek the death penalty against any of the five.
