Hey all,

A while back I posted a question trying to see if anyone knew how long background investigations for the Federal Government (CBP Sector Enforcement Specialist GS-5) take, approximatley. Again to clarify, the BI paperwork filled out was the SF-85P

Anyway, it has been about a month and a half and I called someone in HR to see what the status was of when I could start work. I am in the National Guard and have some training and stuff coming up and it would help me greatly to know when I start work because I have to move halfway across the country to my duty locations.

She says IA (Internal Affairs?? Any ideas?) has "opened my case" but that they won't know anything more until the investigator "contacts me."

So does having your "case opened" mean the process will get started in earnest or is it more of..well..nothing? Any experiences?

one thing with applying with the feds, is you have to have patience. it takes a while. backgrounds don't take that long. a BI will and should contact you and go over stuff. a BI usually finished in couple weeks. it's the whole getting approved, etc that takes a long time. sorry I don't know what IA is though.
