you go to an full time , extended format ,level 1,2,3 academy (thanks hbliam) which is usually for reserves. and receive an academy post certificate which mean you've been through the whole training. after, you can usually apply as a pre-service or lateral candidate for most agencies and skip some of the testing processes. after you get hired. you usually have a 12 -18 month probation period. after you'll received your BASIC post certificate. after certain amount of years you'll received your intermediate and advanced certificate. if you have a bachelors or masters, then you'll received the intermediate and advanced certificate faster. also the academy graduation certificate is good up to 3 years and after you have to take some sort of refresher course . it's better to apply during or asap after graduation so you don't forget a lot of stuff.

but of course the best way is to get sponsored and paid and guarantee a job... since everyone in CA is hiring..

All correct except there is no more module a,b,c,d. It's just Level I, II, and III now.
