I understand this may vary somewhat but I am curious if some gangs are nationally recognized as greater security threats than others? Groups such as the MS-13 and the AB seem to be everywhere. Does size necessarily determine the threat of a gang or is it based on local activity, leaders and numbers?
Thanks.

I'm not a gang expert but size does not determine the threat of the gang...however, size will give each gang more territory so to speak and more clout. The ABs and their offshoots are all over the place, but the Hispanic gangs (at least in Texas) are the ones who have the sheer numbers and run quite a bit. MS13 isn't a great threat sizewise, but they are vicious pieces of sh*t and more of a threat to LEOs and COs. So many prison gangs, but Texas Syndicate, Mexican Mafia, AB's, Houstone Tango Blasts (up and coming).....hell, as far as I'm concerned they are all a threat.

Wow, those stg names sound really familiar. I have a question for JSD73. We both know about MM, TS, AB, AC, ect... But the Tangos, all of them including Houstone, D-Town, whatever, are they still not recognized as an stg by TDCJ? They are reaking havoc in my little facility, accounting for most of the hits.

Our major STGs in California include the Mexicam Maria / Surenos, MS-13 (very up-incoming), Crips and Bloods (Black Gorrilla Family), Nuestra Familia / Nortenos, and the white gangs AB, NLR, Peckerwoods. Our Surenos of late have been causing most of the trouble.
Can't forget the drop-out gangs! Northern Riders, New Flower and the 2-5.

man, we (cali) are just breeders of degenerates. pure paradise. ;) what exactly is a drop out gang? also, i know the nuestra family and MM are mortal enemies. is that the case for groups such as the NLR and AB as well?
thanks again.

I don't honestly know if TDCJ recognizes them or not. I think they are rapidly getting recognized within the system but as usual, such as mine, most agencies want to deny there is a problem from the inside (and I work in a county facility where we have plenty of Houstone's, crips, and bloods) and yet the Captain refuses to acknowledge their existance

I'd say both. In large gangs, new members have along way to go to move up the ranks so try and prove themselves by out doing each other. Some other gangs, although smaller, are made up and/or led by individuals from war torn, third world countries and have lived around death their entire lives. While their physical size is anything but intimidating, the fact that they will kill you for no real reason at all shows their true nature.

I'm glad we're not the only ones having an explosion with Tango's. I as well am a county cage kicker and have noticed a surge in numbers for these little rats.

I think any county from the Houston area (Harris County) to Bexar and Travis among others are experiencing an upswing in the TangoBlasts.

We are inundated with Aryan Brotherhood of Texas and Aryan Circle members.
We have several various Crips and Blood sets in our county, but they don't do a whole lot of "set tripping" any more. They actually find ways of getting along with each other while incarcerated; usually by teaming up to see who can give us the most trouble.
Being over 100 miles Houston we don't get too many Tangos, but we have definitely had a few come through. I try my best to validate them for our records. I validated a Valluco Tango member a couple of months ago, he actually thought no one as far north of the valley as we are would know who they were.
***Attention Texas C/O's***
The NLR (Nazi Low Riders) have moved into Texas. They are not very recognizable yet, but they are here. The USP in Beaumont has had quite a number of them moved in there over the last year or so and I believe that is why the organization has followed them here. One of our local scrotes went off to state jail (Gist in Beaumont) and came out tatted out with NLR ink. That means at least a few have been put into the TDCJ system as well.

Damn, I make that State Jail run every week or so for our county :D Good ol' Gist
It isn't the size, its the viciousness. The AB are known as the most brutal killers in the prison system. I've heard a statistic that AB members make up less than 1% of the federal prison inmates, but are responsible for 17% of murders.

I would have to agree here. I have been seeing more and more reds being worn around during Main Yard, Programs, and Chow. As for seeing BlueBloods around, they have been getting scarcer and scarcer. I wonder if they are intentionally sending the Bloods to our facility??
(BlueBloods - the joke between CO's that all Crips really want to be Bloods, they just got in the wrong line in grade school! LOL)

Here in NJ we keep a close eye on Netas, Latin Kings, Crips, Bloods, MS13, AB, etc. I deal with mainly Bloods, and have recently began attending the gang intelligence meetings.

that's interesting. so, it can really be more about what "values" the gang holds (terror, ruthlessness, etc.) rather than numbers. i guess if you want to be known as a super badass, murder is one way of earning the title. whatevvvaa...
are hits usually inter or intraracial?

Can be either. Depends on the reason for the hit. Could be a hit on a member of a different gang or a hit on a member who has been determined to be a "no good".

I don't pay any attention to any of them in regards to size, in the joint I work in we have Piases, Surenos, Nortenos, MS-13, AB, EME, Bloods, Crips, DC Blacks....you name it, we got it. And they are a bunch of clowns.

You can tell if they are Tango Blast if they have PTB or their area code tattooed on them somewhere

Area codes down here don't really mean a thing...hell, we have em tatted on for Galveston down to Houston and while it signifies the area, it ain't the Tangos who do it here. The biggest Identifier for them is the Houston Astro star tattoed on them

Hurricane Rita brought the Texas AB & Aryan Circle to Kansas City. The storm caused the evacuation of USP/FCI/FPC Beaumont. It just so happened that we had room for about 740 inmates in Leavenworth, so we got 740 from FCI Beaumont. In that group was a number of ABT & AC members, along with Piasas, Tangos, Texas Family members, & Border Brothers.
For those who have read Lon Bennett Glenn's book: Texas Prisons; The Largest Hotel Chain in Texas, you will remember an inmate he tells of named Sam Eaglin. Sam Eaglin was one of the 740 from Beaumont and he's still in Leavenworth.
