Alright, Im in Texas have already put myself through an academy and recieved my certification in Jan. 2007, I currently am up to date with all my debts (which happened just recently) but I have some collection on my credit report from back in 2003. Also have a repo, which was deleted from 2 of the 3 credit bureau's. I know it depends on department standards but how will this affect on getting hired. I dont want keep applying @ places that will deny me? for credit reasons.

Al you can do is talk to each individual agency. A lot will depend on why. I've had two real toough times with finances in my life. I've also had a wife with major medical complications including hospital stays of months at a time and 7 children. Nodoby has ever batted an eye at my financials. If it was because you were dropping your whole check at the bar and skipping out on apartments that might be a different story.

i know for a fact that credit issues is huge!! but it's up to each individual agency and they take it case by case. like the above person stated, you could have had medical problems or you could have dropped it all on gambling... so it all depends. but i know a lot of people that get DQed for credit issues, unless you show that you are making the payments and being responsible. having bad credit might = to being irresponsible and immature... but it depends. good luck

Alot of it was being young and stupid, I skipped out on an apartment but paid it off, got one charge off and other have been brought current in the beginning of this year, the charge off that I have are already like 3 yrs old. So I hope it wont affect me too much.

Many agencies view how an applicant handles credit as an indicator of how that applicant handles responsibility in general. The standards you'll be held to will vary from agency to agency. Quite a few agencies are pretty strict regarding credit issues, some a little more understanding. The only specific advice I can offer is that you be totally honest concerning your credit history. Offer valid reasons for problems, not excuses. There is a difference, and believe me, Background Investigators/Oral Boards know that difference.
