Sonny was a cop for over 40 years and did some time in Korea before that. He was a cop before I was born. He went to the same church as me and helped me through my application process. He was a great guy and gave me a lot of good advice...I worked with him for about 16 years. Let me give you some advice from observing Sonny... He smoked too much and it took several years off his life.. he was 69.. and his last 5 years were not good in and out of the hospital with plenty of smoking related illnesses... Second bit of advice.. Sonny was a working money making machine.. Moonlighting, working overtime, working from dawn to way past dusk... I think this cost him a couple of marriages and did not help his health any. He died with a healthy bank account but never got to enjoy it..... I got a lot of advice from Sonny but this advice I got from observing him.. Please be safe and don't fall into these traps...

I know this is for cops only, but I'll settle the law suit out of court for this one. I just have to say to you, Badgeman...

I'm sorry, sweet man.

Sorry for the loss of your friend and mentor Badgeman, my condolences to you and his family.

I feel there are a lot of us, me included, that have fallen into those traps.

We could make more money elsewhere but because of our "calling", we have chosen a profession in which we will never be rich. In most cases we have to work all those extra gigs to survive. We feel a lot of guilt sometimes because we are not with our families as we should be and we want to provide them all their wants and needs but find it hard at times in this thankless job.

Thanks for sharing Sonny with us. I am sure he was a special person. I am sure he knew, as I do, what tolls were being taken on him. Maybe his story will help the younger generations of officers put things more into perspective. I for one will have to rethink things. I know what is happening but keep saying, "just a little bit longer".

Keep safe friend, Thanks again.

My condolences to you Badgeman and Sonnys' family. Every time a brother or sister is lost a piece of us is lost also. Take care and be safe.

Thanks for all the messages... I hope you take the lessons to heart and keep family and your health as top priorities... Sonny reminded me of Andy from Mayberry.. Looked and acted a lot like him.. Thanks again and stay safe.

I'm sorry for your loss Badgeman. He sounds like he was a good, Christian friend. We all have our faults though and no one lives forever. Think of the good times and keep passing on his advice to others. John 11:25,26

I am sorry badgeman.......he will be rewarded for the good he did here, I truly believe that.

IMHO, the best tribute you can pay him is to do for someone else what he did for you.
