I have a disturbing staticstic, I was told by one of my instructors that Mass. laws are the toughest in the country, if this is so would I have an easier time finding a job in another state?
Thank you
Pat

I think about 25% of the states think they are the toughest. On the old forum, this debate came up and it got kind of ugly.
As a trainer, I have looked at the standards in almost all states and none of them seem to be so much different that they appear too tough.
Once upon a time, I was in a pretty demanding course in the Army. I was wondering if I was going to make it through. I stopped and asked myself.....how many people have already done this course? Are all of them better than I am? Naaaaah, I was sure right then that I could make it.

I agree that most states believe they are the toughest in the land. Generally each state's standards are governed by their P.O.S.T. commission. The P.O.S.T standards are influenced by the national P.O.S.T. commission. The minimal stadards are pretty much the same across the country. Some add more, such as increased education requirements. I think if you have the will to succeed than you will do well no matter where you go. Good luck!

Hey Patrick, if you want it bad enough, you'll do it! I'm in California (guilty of knowing that *we* have the toughest standards in the country http://www.officer.com/ubb/smile.gif ), and I actually failed out of my first academy... bad luck, head up my a*s, whatever you want to call it... anyway, rather than admitting defeat I registered to put myself through an academy a month later and ended up graduating #2 in my class. The academy can be tough, and out here it is common for 10-20% of students to fail, but I would say that the majority of those who fail out are not inept, but rather get unlucky. The 2nd academy I went through, 3 people failed out on the same deadly force scenario... they were all doing excellent up until that point, but rules are rules! I wouldnt let it stress you out.... go into any big city and watch the cops... I guarantee you that you'll see a couple guys who will make you feel a lot better about your own chances.
