I'm looking to relocate as well in mid '08... and over the past month have researched on here and on the net and created a list of great (at least from reviews, pay, and benefits) departments I plan to apply for. Ft lauderdale was on that list but there are too many complaints about them on here and a few other places on the net.. I was also more fond of those in the Palm Beach county area. This information was pulled directly from each agencies website. anyways, good luck!

Riviera Beach Police - you dont want to go there
West Palm Beach Police - directly south of riviera, but not too bad
Boynton Beach Police - last i heard they were working 12.5 hours shifts
Miami Gardens - hell no, not even for the $12,000 bonus

Good Depts in South FL:
Pembroke Pines, Davie, Margate, Miami Beach, Broward SO, Palm Beach SO, Plantation, Miramar, Coral Gables, Boca Raton, Aventura, Palm Beach Gardens

Ft Lauderdale used to be a top notch dept. A city commision with personel agenda's has turned the dept into a dump. There is a lot of "head hunting". Moral is in the gutter and people are starting to leave. My advice would be working at Ft Lauderdale as a last resort....

riviera beach....is a all ghetto area, bad tax base, section 8,crack head, drug dealing, constant turn over, hi stress.......

should be taken over by palm beach sheriff , and the letter of law imposed.

I believe you need a Bachelor's degree to even apply to Coral Spring. Can anyone confirm this?

That's how it was, Im sure a quick check on their HR website would confirm that for you. Although, I recall something about military service reducing the 4 yr degree req.

your speculation is correct... right off of their website...

What are your minimum education and experience requirements for Law Enforcement Officer and law Enforcement Trainee?
All candidates must possess a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree. Candidates who have spent at least two years in the Military or at least two years as a Law Enforcement Officer may hold a minimum of 60 College Credits in lieu of a Bachelor’s Degree.

Do you offer any flexibility on your minimum education requirement?
Candidates for the position of Law Enforcement Officer and Law Enforcement Trainee must possess a Bachelor’s Degree. The ONLY exception to this rule is for candidates who have spent at least two years in the Military or at least two years as a Law Enforcement Officer. Candidates who meet the aforementioned level of experience may possess a minimum of 60 College Credits in lieu of a Bachelor’s Degree.

I heard Sunrise has a big turnover rate but I'm not sure why. I would do some investigating first.

nice tax base city, and good beginner agency, but they refuse to give up pay raises, big percentage taken out of yr check to help pay for your pension.

recent bail out include:

broward sheriff's office
coral springs
pembroke pines
1 guy quit entirely.....went to texas
1 guy quit, went to gainesville, quit gainesville and returned to sunrise.

Are you saying that everyone is bailing on those departments you just mentioned? If so, how come. Is it like that for most of the departments in southern florida, specifically plam beach and broward?

if your young and single, come on down.............

don't expect ever to buy a house and start a family.....

if yr married with kids..................

weather is great, but school system sucks, hi density population,
long term...forget about it.........

other factors too, but anyone who's has been down here
will get into that, the county jail demo graphics speak for them selves.

I had heard that they lost a lot of guys to Coral Springs when they became one of the highest paid in Broward.

is coral springs difficult to get onto? i meet their minimum qualifications of a bachelors degree but have 6 years prior military as well... and not certified as a full police officer.. just corrections. I was hoping to get my EOT corrections certification so all I would have to go through is the crossover, which equals less cost.. but i still worry about pickyness on applicants.. and being the highest paid in broward i'm sure they have all kinds of applicants knocking on their door.
