In my area a RADAR "scrambler" is being adverstised. It is called the "Phaser." It claims to be able to make vehicles invisible to RADAR for up to 3 miles. My training says its impossible. What have you discovered about these devices? Are they really effective?

I've heard both good and bad. Some say they work and others say they are a waste of money. I personally have never ran into someone using one. The only thing I have heard for sure about them is that if the device actually sends out a signal to scramble the radar signal they are illegal. This information came from the FCC.

The Phazer is a mediocre radar detector at best. IPTM did a test of radar jammers about a year ago. They found that the only ones that really did work were beaucoup expensive. The Phazer was an empty box in terms of it's jamming ability.
FL has a criminal statute prohibiting jammers and a skilled radar operator should be able to spot its use. When I took the radar instructor course, my assigned presentation was on detectors and jammers. Kind of fun stuff.

Have any of you actually seen one of these yet? I've been hearing about them off and on for years but wouldn't recognize one if it bit me in the..., well you know. What do you look for to identify one?

The Phazer looks like a regular radar detector. I have seen several photo ads for it, last ad I saw for it was in USA Today.

Thanks Niteshift. The reason I asked about them is that the Phazer is being advertised in our area. I haven't ran into anyone using them.
By the way, this was race weekend at Talladega National Raceway. The track is close by to me and I had fun catching the D.U.I.'s I literally just dropped a guy off at jail a few minutes ago! http://www.officer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif (.14% BAC). Anyway, Niteshift you be safe down there in Florida! Same goes to all.

Niteshift: Thanks for the info. Do you by chance remember where you scrounged up research material on the scramblers? I would like to look into this a little bit.

Some of the material I used was in our instructors manuals. I also used the ad for the Phazer that was in the USA Today I got that morning at the hotel.
You can call IPTM and see if you can get a copy of their study. The guy to talk to there is Kevin Morrison.
