I'm considering about applying tothe missouri eastern police academy in september. After getting some info on the training, i found out that the academy is six a little over six months and cost about $4,100 while i understand that this price is about right, i nearly fell out of the chair when i heard the recruiter say it. Here's my question: are there any state or federal grants that i can apply for to offset this cost other than having a p.d sponsor me? if you have any information. please contact me at

I searched for them when I was applying and had to pay. Most places will take the GI Bill if your former military but thats all I found. There was at one time a grant from the FBI that helped but everything that I was directed to led me to dead ends. The other option is to take out a private education loan.

If the academy is based at a College or University, you should be able to get State or Federal Financial Aid.
Mine was based at MW State Univeristy in St. Joe, MO, and we had a couple of people in my class get Financial Aid.
Best bet is to call the academy and ask.

I went through two academies at MO Worst.
The first one was in 93. It was a 120 and there were no class numbers then.
Second time through I was in Class 12......
I decided to go through and get 800 hour cert so I could move around the State better instead of being stuck as a 120 "Grandfathered Applicant."
