I think this stuff is a big deal, and while Cocoa is an exception to the 'average' town, the fact that someone is ballsy enough to do this is remarkable.
Be ever vigilant gents.

Good Grief... time to pack my bags and go back home to Cocoa... I seriously doubt this would have ever happened let alone go un-addressed if the STREET CRIMES unit were still 10-8 and kickin *****, instead of handing out choclate and roses in da hood..
Chief PHIL.....Where is the STREET CRIMES UNIT????????

you're about right.
i was turned down by cocoa pd for not having a degree (i have 70+ credit hours).
CPD had "6 openings" at the time.
they filled two if i'm not mistaken.
officers are leaving there in droves.
no contract in 3 years.
Cocoa is Brevards' Pine(Crime) Hills, or Pork'n'Beans.
and if multiple officers can be called out, that's just wrong.

have a degree to work in that raggedy *** town.....talk to the hand on that,
they'd be place to take the scrubs no one else would want.
you'd be better off being police certified running the jail vans for the sheriff.

Lets put a door gunner in our choppers. Every 5th round a tracer. I have said it before and I am saying it again, the public is getting what they asked for. Now that crime is spilling over into their gated communities, they don't like it. When I am driving in my POV, my Glock is sitting in my lap. I say the hell with the PC crowd. Better yet, lets send the dirt balls to live in their houses and make them responsible for them. Bet they change their little minds real quick.

Ok did I read that right? An officer left because he was called "cracker"? Ooook... but moving on. I did most of my growing up right around Cocoa (half in Merritt Island, half in Rockledge) and, yes it has it's rough parts, but it's not that bad. The city is actually starting to make things nicer (a lot of policies on new businesses and houses being built) so their strategy is to basically either squash the bad area of Cocoa into a very small, manageable area, or preferably get rid of it all together. . I could have sworn though that their degree policy was 60 credits or an AA, not a 4 year degree, but I've been wrong before. However, whoever said that they're leaving in droves is pretty accurate. Not sure how their pay scale or benefits are, but a lot of officers are starting to leave either for Brevard S.O. or the usually Orange or Seminole S.O., Orlando PD, or just plain 'bigger and better things'.
On a side note, the thing that sucks about the Orlando area (probably the same as most places in Florida) anytime someones talks about Cocoa BEACH they just call it Cocoa. Not sure if that annoys anyone else, but from someone who has most of their memories from Brevard County for some reason it just gets annoying. They don't believe you when you say it's two totally different things unless you drive out there and physically different they are. Then they can't believe how different they are socially, or the huge amounts of man made island and water there is between the two. Anyway, that's my little rant.

How is cocoa compared to Melbourne's University?

How is cocoa compared to Melbourne's University?
Well like I said, there are bad parts of Cocoa and not as bad as Cocoa. University in of itself in Melbourne isn't bad at all. It has its shady parts, but where doesn't? My advice to you Wadson is start doing ride-alongs in other parts of the county and Central Florida (do some in Orange County and Orlando area) so you can get a broader view of law enforcement instead of just the parts that your buddy patrols.

Lets put a door gunner in our choppers. Every 5th round a tracer.
Fill it with pepperballs instead with a pepper/CS gas combo... at least make them suffer. the impact alone would hurt bad.. then on top of not being able to see or breath.. that would be great

That's a damn sure 10-4 right there.
I'll get my applications in as soon as possible.
