No. I believe BPD still has the residency requirement. You have to be a resident of Boston at least 1 year prior to the civil service test date. For BPD, you still have to live in Boston after being sworn in. City employees (DPW, Clerks, etc..) can move out of Boston after being employed for 10 years. BPD and BFD does not fall into this list ...

I have some fed friends from MA and they mentioned that BPD is on a major hiring push. Checked out the website and looks like a decent place, the starting pay is 60 ish with a 4 year degree.
Why the need for so many people? Is the retirement 20? What is the top pay?
Anyone with some info on BPD? Just interested, not planning to move to Beantown.

I heard through the grapevine that BPD is in such need of help they will be taking lateral transfers from other mass civil service depts which they have not done in years.
I'm not sure if they axed the residency thing for this test.

Boston is taking laterals from other civil service cities but they require laterals to live IN the city of Boston. They still have residency preference for this upoming exam in May, but I hear that they made it down to the non-residents on the old list. So Boston residents will still be ahead of non residents and if you are hired, you will have to live within the city limits.
