You can only claim them if they add up to at least 2 percent of your adjusted gross income.

If you own a house, then this will come in handy: Haircuts, uniform purchases, driving to court (off-duty), training, dry-cleaning, etc.

If you receive an annual uniform allowance you cannot deduct cleaning expenses unless they exceed that stipend and you retain the receipts for proof.

If you are a LEO, check with those within your department for a reputable tax person. There are a number of them throughout OC that deal with cops and firefighters - and, they are reasonably priced.

Haircuts are not deductible according to the IRS.

1) Clothing; other personal items — Clothes are ordinarily a personal expense. Kennedy v. Commissioner, 451 F. 2d 1023 (7th Cir. 1971), aff'g a memo opinion of the Tax Court. Haircuts and other grooming expenses are also personal, and thus not deductible as a business expense, even if required by an employer. Drake v. Commissioner, 52 T.C. 842 (1969) (Haircuts not deductible, though required by job.)
