I've taken a lot of course from them......taking one this week and laser instructor in May. All top shelf training. They concentrate a lot on traffic, but have everything from gangs to IA to K9. I think you'd really like their Criminal Interdiction Patrol Class. Their classes aren't cheap, but they are high quality.

I know I promised you some court decisions, but I forget what they were about. http://www.officer.com/ubb/redface.gif

Give me a little reminder and I'll hook you up. I got a few more at the class I was attending.

Also, if you're looking for any other kinds of training, let me know. I keep pretty up to date on a lot of the training.

Niteshift, I got a new schedule and list of courses last week. They had a couple I was wondering if you had taken and if they were any good.

Basic Hostage Negotiations 40 hours
Advanced " " " 40 hours

There was also one I can't remember the exact title now but was on interviewing and assessing "problem" officers, pre and post employment.

I also found out that they will come to "host" facilities with the classes but haven't found out the specifics on that one yet.

Don't know whether I want to try and get them to come here or me go there and see if I can harrass you, Bro... http://www.officer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

You're gonna have to come a lot further south to harrass me big guy :P About 5 hours south.

I took the Basic Negotiation course from the state. A couple of other negotiators in the area have taken IPTM's advanced and say it's pretty good. You might go check our state association web site at www.fahn.net. (http://www.fahn.net.) Our state conference is coming up in May in Orlando. It's a pretty good conference. I can't make it this year, since I'll be in 3 other classes that month. Hey, attend the conference, take the family and make your trip to Disney tax deductible http://www.officer.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif

They do a wide range of course. This week while I was in mine, there was a high-risk warrants class, advanced I&I and an IA class. If you really want a party crowd, attend during the vice investigation classes http://www.officer.com/ubb/eek.gif

They will bring classes to you. Basicly, your agency pays for the class (which includes a couple of "free" slots) then you can charge people to attend, to recoup your expenses.

Check with the Army MP school too. They have a negotiator class, no tuition, free room and board. They don't offer it very often, I'm still waiting for it.

Hey Niteshift,
Do you have an address, email, phone number, or contact person for the Army MP school?
My department hosted IPTM's Criminal Patrol Drug Enforcement school a few years ago but unfortunately we are a small department with an even smaller budget so we have to rely heavily on area departments putting on free schools.

Welcome back Niteshift!! http://www.officer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif The Supreme Court decisions I was asking about involved consensual searches of vehicles.

About the Army MP school, were you aware that they closed Fort Mclellan, the home of the Army MP corps. They moved it to Fort Leonard Wood MO. Fort Mclellan is about 2 miles from where I work. Matter of fact I ETS's from the Army from Fort Mclellan. It was a GREAT source of law enforcemnt training. We hope that someone will open a training center similar to RCTA there. I figured you already knew it moved but just wanted to make sure.

Take care and be safe http://www.officer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

I was trying to get up to McClellan before they moved the school to Ft. Lost in the Woods, but never made it up there.

Speaking of RCTA, we got our confirmation letters today for our classes in May http://www.officer.com/ubb/smile.gif You'll have to fill me in on the nightlife of Meridian. http://www.officer.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif

What exactly were you looking for on consent searches? Wasn't your chief saying you needed PC for them or something?

About the nightlife in Meridian...

Well, if you drive about 15 miles or so into town there are many places to eat. There is a Wal-Mart there to. Near your barracks there is a club that you can go to and drink a beer should you want to. (I didn't go to it so I really can't say much about it) In short, its not that bad. I basically just hung out in my room and studied (watched TV lol). Oh yeah, the food in the mess hall...SUCKS!!! Whoever said Navy food was good was a damn fool!

Speaking of the Navy, you'll be on a Navy base. They have an agreement with RCTA which allows the students to bring their duty weapons on base. However, the weapons will have to be locked up in your trunk.

As far as the course and facilities are concerned, I was impressed. The course was informative and the instructors each had years of experience in drug interdiction.

Give me a hollar before you go down there and I'll try to answer any questions. I had fun down there I think you will to. http://www.officer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Oh and to answer your question, yes my Chief thinks you need PC to ask for consent. Well I do not agree. My understanding of the law is that I can ask anyone for consent. That person still has the right to say no. My Chief's main concern is that we would use "profiling" to determine who we ask for consent. I understand his position as Chief of the department. He's responsible for allot. However, I feel that if I cannot ask for consent when I feel I need to, then I will be fighting a lost cause against drugs. Anyway, didn't mean to get on my soap box. Be safe down there in Florida!! (I'll be down there in May for my anniversary!)
