I just got this email about Las Vegas is hiring police cadets. I was wondering if a LVM officer can tell me if it would be a good start, im not 21 yet but would like to be a police officer when i do turn 21.

Can i get like 40+ hrs if im a cadet. I live in MI and would like to make that my full time job until i become a police officer. Im working on my Associate's degree (AAS) right now and after this semester will have 42 credits. Im sure i can transfer to a community college out their.

My GPA is a 3.43 and im working 35 hours at 711 a week.

Thanks for the help guys.

Yes, cadets are full-time employees. They go through the entire background and hiring process just the same as officers, then go through an academy and field training. Cadets work in uniform in the field taking calls while driving an unmarked police vehicle. They don't have any contact with suspects, make arrests, or carry weapons, but they have to be proficient at using the radio and knowing what's going on. Cadets mainly handle 'report calls' that don't require criminal decisions to be made, nor arrests, etc.

When a cadet turns 21, they enter the police academy, (retaining their seniority) graduate and enter field training as a police officer. By that time, they're aces. They know how to listen to the radio, jump calls, and find their way around.

If you're interested in applying, PM me for more info or questions. Lots of MI immigrants come to LVMPD!
