Hi all.

As you may have read in the LEO Career forum, I've been a sworn EMT for Boston for a while now and am thinking I'd be happier as a LEO. Planning on taking the exam coming up in May and would really like to try to become part of Cambridge PD.

Couple of questions for anyone here who might work for Cambridge or knows someone, trying to get some background info and make sure I approach things the right way.

First: out of interest (not out of trying to shimmy my way in somewhere... hate that kinda stuff), I've thought about joining Cambridge Reserve. Wondering what's thought of doing that kind of thing... I see it as a good chance to help out, learn, and serve the population, but I don't want to get blackballed as a brown-nose or anything when I do try to come on to regular PD.

Second: wondering what it's like working for Cambridge... I've seen pretty much everything that can happen to someone at my current job, managed many a volatile and/or violent scene on my own, and have a pretty strong sense of how to control an environment while remaining fair, but I have not ,after all, been a LEO before. I'm intending to do as much research as I can, but nothing's like talking to the folks who actually do it.

Third: any general advice on the test or what the placement process is like would be appreciated. I have a lot of passion for what I do, and becoming a LEO is the next step for me in the evolution of where I'd like my career and my life to go.

Thanks in advance, talk to you soon, and be safe.

When I was in MA and young (18) I became an Auxiliary Police Officer for a town outside boston (not cambridge). On the dept. I volunteered for we did not have any powers and did not get paid, but I still thought it was good experience...

I knew some people that went over to Cambridge Aux. Police. They were sworn as specials and did get paid for details only. It will be good experience, however, im not so sure how much it will help you getting on full time...

I know some people who were aux. officers on different depts and either never got on or it took them a long time...either way, its not going to hurt, unless you make a bad name for yourself...

Good luck
