While I wish I could post a "I got the call!" thread, I did get a very nice call today. My LAPD mentor called me and said the background looks good to go and he was wondering if I could attend the Feb. 5th academy so they could expedite the review process. He told me they would be calling to schedule to oral psych. Its one of those so close but yet so far away things and Im trying not to get too excited until I have the good news! Anyways, It looks like the home stretch and Im keeping my fingers crossed...wish me luck! :)

congrats! I hope it works out well for you. From experience though, let me just say that getting hired on is not seeing the finish line...it's an invitation to the starting blocks! I graduate from the academy on February 9th and I don't know that I'll see the finish line until after FTO. Good luck to you...it's tons of fun now that it's almost over.

Im only a recruit so I think it is 5K (not too shabby), and 10k for the laterals. Also, I think a 10% pay increase is in the works too. Just got me oral psych date today though! :)

You want some unsolicited free advice? I'm gonna give it to you anyway. Take that $5,000 and stick in some S&P 500 Stock Index tracking mutual fund like Fidelity's or Vanguard's or any of the dozens of others. Then forget about that money, pretend like you never had it and never got it.
