Does anyone have any personal experience with them? I've been looking into attending their self-sponsored academy. Ive used the search function but didnt find much information other than what is already posted on their website. Any first hand info about them would be great!

Thanks in advance..

I recently attended the re-qualification course there. Most of their instructors were good (mostly San Jose PD), but most didn't seem to take our courses too seriously. We were constantly being released early for breaks, lunches, etc., much to the consternation of the staff. Despite being harped on about ethics, they would routinely do what they wanted rather than what they were supposed to. I wondered if they still put down their full hours even though we were home eating dinner by the time the class was officially over for the day. The hours of the course are mandated by POST and I'll bet we barely spent the required hours actually in class.

Now, some of this could have been due to the fact we were all former academy graduates or LE officers, who just needed refreshing as opposed to "raw recruits".

The recruits I met were courteous and squared away. I heard a rumor that one broke under scenario testing and quit on the spot, but that may have just his weakness and not anything to do with the academy.

The facility is decent.

There are a few different locations. I know one is in Gilroy too. Im applying in Northern California too. Many of the Central Coast and Bay area departments use those academies.

I was there earlier this year, and I was the one who left on the scenarios, however I was dealing with multiple failuresand was becoming a bit frustrated. I fugured I was in a spiral and was pretty sure I was going to fail.I felt that up until then I was doing well, but when it came to scenarios I fell flat on my face..

I put myself through about five years back. I was a non affiliate at Evergreen as was roughly 60-70 percent of the class of about 50. I would say almost all of us ended up with jobs (police officer positions) upon graduating or slightly before. As far as I could tell, the academy was pretty much identical to San Jose's. The San Jose recruits were in a classroom next door to us and we often had the same instructors. Most of our instructors were San Jose officers. For this reason, we had great instructors and I learned quite a bit. As far as the PT and other aspects, I didn't find anything overwhelming or too challenging. However I came in more than prepared for whatever was ahead. I made some great friends (who I work with on the street now) and stayed out of trouble. There are many other academies that are much more challenging, such as ACSO and Sac PD. I would recommend Evergreen if you are a non-affiliate as I said earlier, it was tough but not overwhelming, and everyone in my class, with a few exceptions, went on to become officers. Again, this was five years ago, from what I understand, the academy went more so to the militaristic/discipline side of things. Just be prepared and no matter which academy you attend you can pass.

I know I’ve got the right mind set, I went on a ride along today with a local pd, and just gave more drive to go out and be the best I can while I’m there. As for the pt, I’m running three miles right now without stopping, able to do 50 push-ups no prob, but haven't had a place to do pull-ups. From what I’m gathering from most of the people I run into and talk to about this, is that Attitude is key, and if you have that you’re headed in the right direction. I'm glad to hear that you and most everyone got picked up either during or after the academy. I've got an interview coming up and hope they pick me up, because after seeing what there all about today, it seems like there a great group of guys and gals...

Physically, it sounds like you won't have a problem. As far as "attitude" is concerned, it is important. The academy is structured to test recruits and throw as much at them as possible to see their breaking point. The important thing is to remember that nothing is personal and whether you believe it or not, the instructors want everyone to succeed, even if they are yelling and screaming at you or "picking" on you. If you can play the game, stay focused, you may even have fun. I look back at my academy experience and often miss it. Although there were some low points, I had a good time overall. Which agency do you have an interview with?

I am currently applying to a few agencies in Central Calif that use these acadmies. I figure that saturating applications in Norther and Southern Calif, something has got to give lol.
