Went out of a quite drink with the wife last night. Went to my local pub, nice place, no problems usually.

Anyway by 7.15 I was on the receiving end of a bar stool and two glasses.

Don't know what started it but six guys went for the manager when he asked them to leave. All of them then attacked him, leaving him with fractures to the jaw and head. Then glasses where being thrown, then chairs, then tables and more fists.

Idiot here went to the managers aid (because I'm nice like that) while my wife called the Police. The long and the short of it, is I now have nasty bruising to the hand and arm.

I didn't identify myself and try and arrest any of the low life, to do so would have been even worse for my health. All I could do was protect the manager (knocked out on the floor) and fend off the bar stools crashing down around us. The best I could do then was get on the phone and talk to the police operator (who I knew) and get them to direct the town CCTV on the offenders. I then wrote a half decent statement.

What I am getting at though is guess what ?
No you probably won't be suprised !

I went around the whole pub afterwards to get witnesses and NOBODY saw anything !

Bloody typical !!!!!

End of moan.

See you at the weekend (on another training course all week)

Hey uk,

So when are you going to learn to WALK AROUND that bucket instead of STEPPING IN IT??? http://www.officer.com/ubb/wink.gif http://www.officer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

I think most any of us would have done the same thing. Big difference between a little exchange of words (see other off duty topic) and somebody getting hurt.

I am a peaceable sort (sort of) and really didn't like to get involved off duty. So I pretty much stayed out of the bars. And still do for that matter.

Don, he's in ENGLAND! It was a PUBLIC HOUSE! Jeeze. No one can be in England and stay out of the pubs.

UK: You take off, leave us for ONE NIGHT and end up in a bar fight. Sheesh!

Did this happen before or after you tipped one for me???

Really, though, hope you're not too badly damaged. Will you be writing a short story about it?????

Do you guys carry firearms off duty? Or even on duty for that matter? I was thinking that some "Bobbies" don't even carry guns, am I right? Just curious...

Was the fight over the Guiness shortage?? I heard a plant over there was shutting down/workers on strike or something.

No we don't carry fairearms off duty. In fact the majority don't carry them at all.

When working we have CS spray but that gets locked away at the station at the end of the shift. If we were to carry anything else off duty we could be arrested for "possession of an offensive weapon". So basically we have to talk our way out of stuff.

The Police over here are, as a rule, UNarmed. we do have units close by with firearms so we have armed backup close by for when we need it. These days that is a lot, firearms crop up in different incidents on a very frequent basis which is sad.

As for the fight. As Chris said, I'm English and this is england. To stay out of Pubs is almost impossible, its a part of the culture really. In my home town there are 9 pubs in the High Street alone!!

The problem in the UK is for some reason, British youths go out, get drunk - AND FIGHT. It has always been like that for as long as I can remember. They seem to think they can take on the world after a few beers and the cops are stuck in the middle of it. We turn up and they take on us (and always lose)

The bruising has gone down now but my friend at the bar (manager) has got his jaw wired up.

All fun and games.

We have a slang term for that. After drinking too much beer, they grow beer muslces and they believe they can win any fight.

Okay, I understand that an off-duty policeman in Great Britain loses his authority to carry weapons. Question: Does an off-duty policeman also lose his police authority???

No a Police Officer is still a Police Officer even off duty the only difference is he cannot carry any type of weapon that he is authorised to when on duty!
Sucks eh?

Would you want to carry a weapon off duty ?

I don't know where I'd put my PR24 on a night out ?

I've allways found a mobile phone damn handy for the old off duty ruck scenario. The other tools of the trade being a loud voice and a good right hook. http://www.officer.com/ubb/smile.gif

'We have armed backup close by when we need it.' How typically British...LOL No wonder you guys lost 'the colonies'.

Sorry....my Social Studies classes are studying the American Revolutionary War. http://www.officer.com/ubb/wink.gif

Seriously...if a cop NEEDS a weapon, he needs it ON his person, not safely tucked away on SOME OTHER GUY down the street.

I can just see this now: Blond to MacLeod "Ooooh officer, do you have a PR 24 in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?" http://www.officer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Better hope your better half doesn't see this! http://www.officer.com/ubb/eek.gif
