Our service acquired a few of these units this past summer. At first they were all the rage, now, not so much. I personally dont like driving it. We got the rear wheel, V6 package not the Hemi or AWD which sucks 'cause we live where we get 2ft. of snow in one night.
Anyway, now it seems nobody wants to drive these beasts as they prefer the good ol' Crown Vic's as well as the Impala's...both cars are alot faster and more powerful than the silly Chargers are. The Charger has poor visibility, the windows always fog, its like driving a box and has little room compared to the Vic's. Horrible.
Anyother opinions. Sure is nice when you pull up to arrest the bad guy and he's comenting on the freakin' Charger like its the coolest PC ever....

You know a car sucks, when people will choose to drive an Impala over it. At 100,000kms Impalas feel like their going to fall apart.
The only time I didn't mind drving an Impala was in the snow, the rest of the time it was awful. Now, I guess after an PCMVA or two they've figured out that due to the placement of the computers and the passenger side airbag, it's to dangerous for anyone to sit in the passenger seat. We only use them as single member units now.. Terrible police cars.

I too have the Hemi Charger and absolutely love the car. My only complaint is the trunk space. I've had to cull so much gear out of my normal load out.

I haven't driven one on patrol but I got to ride in my buddies before he retired last March- hounddog. He's a real big guy and he loved it he said it had more room for him htan the CVPI and he said the seats were actually more comfortable for him - he said they were firmer and fit him better. He told me that he didn't like how the vision was a little bad out the back but reminded me that the Caprice wasn't all that great either- but for a different reason the truck was higher and you sat lower in the car. I know this from riding in it a couple different tiems- it's really quiet way more quiet than a CVPI at really high speed and around slow speed areas it was amazingly quiet. It also rode better- yes it handled great too more on htat shortly- but the ride was just really nice. It didn't do that thing the CVPI's do where you feel all the bumps in the road it just kinda floated over them. The handling I can't say much about because I didn't drive it but I did feel it go through the curves and it didn't body roll and lean like either the Impala or CVPI it just kinda went through them. I didn't drive it so I can't explain it better than that - it just felt more in control.
Power- I rode in the HEMI one and in the v6 one. The HEMI is fast- but it's not rediculous fast it's just a very solid performer to about 130 it's really a steady rate of acceleration and didn't make me feel like he was going to go out of control. But he did stop and turn the TC off and lit 'em up a little for me- not much but enough to know that the TC makes a huge difference in take offs. The v6 was not too bad either- it felt like it was a little tiny bit slower than the CVPI but enough to keep it within close distance to the ford- it really felt like a CVPI from a couple years ago just before they added more to what it is now powerwise. It felt the same going down the road as the other one too - exactly the same. I would like to have a Charger v8 or v6 because I reallly liked them- but I'm only 5'10 and 190.

I prefer the Crown Vic's for handling and power. The Charger does not turn well as the steering feels stiff. I can crank the vic around much faster than the charger when need be and catch up to the subjects vehicle much faster.
Our service is cheap, thats why we didnt opt for the HEMI Charger. WoW. :(

I can't speak fo r when it's loaded with gear and stuff but I know the CVPI goes 0-110 in 0.63 miles and the v-6 Charger does it in 0.61 miles according to the MSP tests back in September.

We had one of the Hemi Charger test cars from Dodge a while back, and we are supposed to get a new fleet of them soon. Everyone really liked it from what I hear. Also, we have a few big ol boys that didn't have any complaints about space.

My experience with the Charger is the complete opposite. It handles SIGNIFICANTLY better then any of the CVPI's I've driven. It turns tighter and faster even on our narrow roads. As far as catching up, forget about it. When that Hemi rolls over, all bets are off. :D
