Is there anybody with the OPD that knows if out of state officers who lateral to oakland have to attend a full academy. Also, whats the moral of the department. I'm currently with the Atlanta Police Department where moral is terrible. I'm from Richmond and thinking about moving back home. I'd appreciate it if someone could give me details on the department.

Greener or not, you'll want to study if you plan on challenging POST. Here are all my notes from the academy.

..but the concrete sure runs redder.......... If the city of Compton had a "father" and Flint,Mi. had an "Older Brother"(crime wise) it would be Oakland.....

Why hello stranger!

You got that right about the concrete.....Last I checked they had 150 murders...(a record high). If it wasn't for the excellent trauma hospital within the city limits..there would be more.

PS. The now broke trauma hospital...due to the perps..I mean victims having no medical insurance.

Why would anyone want to transfer to Oakland when they can work at Lennox, Century, or ELA? I spent many years in the area around LAX, and had a great time.

I was thinking the same thing. Atlanta is not too indifferent to Oakland in type of crime, and the demographic. Just a lot less crime in Atlanta.

Plus Atlanta and neighboring cities are cleaner, and the officers can AFFORD to live there..........

true that- I used to laugh when pushing a blk and wht up and down the century corridor b4 hitting La cienega and the 405, how the hookers, and gangsters would simply roll up and down as if they owned the strip, despite the number of LAX and LAPD units patrolling, but let one or two LASD "Barrio LNX" units happen to roll the strip( most just looking for a quick t/stop or even lunch at subways) and cars on 24" rims would "mysteriously" start pulling into the nearest hotel or fast food pkg lot, the "ladies" would quickly get of the "track" and into a hotel or the Denny's and that mile long rdwy would quickly turn ghost town vacant :D

Take a look at Sacramento PD. They pay for you to attend their academy. Still centrally located without the high Bay Area costs. Plenty of police work to do in a very diverse setting.

Your not even an officer here in Atlanta yet, and your already thinkin of lateraling to Cali... Well, CA POST states you need atleast 1 year of patrol exp. to qualify for their wavier system, and GA POST / APD makes you sign a 2 year contract agreement, stating that if you leave prior to your 2 years, you must pay back all training costs.

I beg to differ on the "a lot less crime in ATL" Trust me, we have plebnty of part 1 crimes, and plenty that go unclassified thanks to certain memeber of the higher ups. I know this for a fact (coming from a california dept) the court system here, is a JOKE! and strick courts, means less crime. 50% of 1st time offenders, get thrown out, because the DA's cant handle the work load....

You know here in GA, we have no juvinial court system. Under 16 and your on a "point" system... If your crime is low in nature, ie; car theft, simply battery, burglary, ect... you get 1-2 points. We cant take them into custody until theyve reached 12 points...

For me, the area around Lennox is my bread and butter. Some of my best cases come out of there. And my brother and sister officers from LASD are great to work with!
